We can't find our great grandfathers death date. All we know is that it was between 1891 and 1901. He was a seafarer and on the 1891 census was a watchman on a dredger in the Tyne. |

I note that on the 1911 census, although widowed, Isabella has put the complete number of years married as 44 years and this has been crossed out along with details of children born to marriage. So if John & Isabella married in on 8 Jan 1857 we must be looking for a death in 1901 for John. If Isabella is a widow in 1901 census and all the other info is correct we must be looking for a death between 8 Jan 1901 and 31 Mar 1901 when the 1901 census took place. |

John Grant's Masters & Mates Certificates are on Ancestry. Cover period 1857 to 1862 (although the 1862 certificate is annotated that he passed in steam in 1871). |

There's always the possibility that he didn't die on land, hence no civil death registration. |
