The 1911 Canadian census is available free on this site:

http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html

I have looked but cannot find the family anywhere in Ontario. Also cannot find George in 1891.

I still cant find George and Maria / Mary's marriage.

Any luck on the other quest for finding George's mothers birth in New York? - Emily Harriet Pack b + - 1842 in New York - rough guess at year as she was baptised in June 1842 in Rochester , Kent.

Six months later In December 1842 Emily's sister is baptised - her place of birth is Chatham 1842. Parents James and Ruth Pack are born in Rochester and Chatham. James was a Tailor - did they go to America for a while and had Emily over there - if anyone can look at births in New York maybe we can find out whereabouts they were around 1840- 2

This looks like James and Ruth arriving in USA:

Name: Ruth Peck
Arrival Date: 10 Jun 1837
Birth Date: abt 1817
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Port of Departure: London, England
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Samson

With her is James, age 25 - a "taylor".

The surname does look like Peck (or even Pick) on the image.

A few lines down on the list is a William "Peck", carpenter aged 30.

I noticed that on the same day that Emily Harriet was baptised was this:

England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
Name: Rosetta Emily Pack
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 26 Jun 1842
Baptism Place: Saint Margaret, Rochester, Kent, England
Father: William Pack <<<<
Mother: Jane Flora

Were James and William brothers, travelling to USA together then returning and having their daughters baptised together? Might be worth checking out Rosetta Emily on later census for birthplace.

No birth records coming up in New York but that doesn't mean anything, as temporary residents they mightn't have bothered.

Good morning - thanks everyone . Marieceleste - Ruth and James' arrival in the USA is interesting - yes, James was a Tailor and now I have a brother ? for him. I am going to check the baptisms for Rosetta Emily Pack and a marriage for William.

I wonder what they were all doing in the USA - is it worth looking at the census records or not - I dont know if you can.

OK, Checked Rosetta's christening record and then found a record of her death in september 1843 age 3 in Hoxton, middlesex.

Choccy - bingo with Mildred Amelia Eve Parker. This morning I received more names and info on the daughters to work on. Mildred Amelia did in fact have a name change - She was born in Kenora in 1910 after the family's arrival in Canada and adopted as a baby and given the name Mildred Wilson. So the record you found is the correct one and date of parents marriage is correct. thanks

There is a mystery and sadness surrounding the family as I have discovered this morning - The 4 youngest daughters Victoria May, Maud, Margaret and Florence were all taken from the family and put into an orphanage and fostered into homes as working children in South West Ontario - possibly then adopted. I wonder what happened - did George and Marie die?

Edith and Dorothy stayed in Kenora.

Margaret had a daughter and Victoria May also had a daughter - my source of info is her grandaugthter

If anyone could help in finding the death records for George and Marie and also any info on what happened to the children. Are there adoption or orphanage records on line for Canada?

Would love to find out more - thanks loads x

Hi, - I have more info now if anyone can help in finding out what happened to them.

Victoria, Maud, Margaret and Flo were placed in the Brantford,Ontario/Paris, Ontario/ Scotland, Ontario location. Edith is nowhere to be found,

The story goes that George deserted his wife and family - he worked on the rail road.

If someone could have a look for any sign of the girls - adoption records maybe, name changes or marriages using their given surname Parker, deaths or census records - how about census records while they were in care - I would be sooooo grateful.

Mother Marie has also disappeared - I think that as the last child in 1910 was taken as a baby then the others had already been taken into care - perhaps.

Thank you in anticipation - much appreciated all x
