He may perhaps be a brother of the Ann Drake Dowell whose baptism Jacqueline posted.

However, there's also this:

IF (and only IF) that's the same Sarah, it would seem to indicate that William 1792 died in infancy.
BUT there's no father's name given for the 1814 one, so it may be a different Sarah.

And anyway, there's no proof that these Dowells are McDowells - they might be quite separate.

Unfortunately, Joyce, the old records (pre-census and pre-statutory registration) are patchy and don't contain a lot of information, so linking one person definitely with another is often impossible.

Perhaps this is the birth/baptism of the William 1649 Edinburgh, mentioned in your opening post. There's no way to know if he's related to the other McDowells or not.

Perhaps his father Alexander is the one you mentioned, 1610 Edinburgh - but again, no way of knowing. And I still can't see any record of an Alexander McDowell (or variation) born or baptised in 1610.

I have no idea if William married Sarah. There is no record of it on FMP

Even if there was, how would one know if it was the same William?

As I've said repeatedly, you will never resolve this line until you find a baptism for William 1792/3

You haven't even got proof - of William 1792/3 parents, unless you have been given some and not mentioned it
