I've just received the death certificate for the 3 year old Thomas and it looks like it is my Thomas. It says he died on 5 September 1875 at the age of 3 years 8 months, and since my Thomas was born in January 1872 it looks like it could be the one. The informant was given as Thomas Dennett, father, potmaker at glassworks. Everything seems to fit. |

There's also this death, of a child who definitely was 3 years old: |

I've ordered the death certificate for the 3 year old Thomas on the off-chance that it might be him. Fingers crossed. |

I now have the death certificate mentioned above for Thomas and it's not my Thomas. This death certificate shows that he was the son of George Dennett and died age 7 months. I guess I'm back to square one. The only other death in the Prescot registration district is again in 1872 but he was 3 years old when he died. |

GRO website doesn't show mother's maiden name on any death records - only on births. |

May was born as Mary: May is often a "pet" form of Mary - as in the case of my own mother, officially Mary, but always known as May. |

The Margaret Fairclough whose baptism is posted is unlikely to be the one who married James Dennett. |

Well, I sent for the death certificate of Elizabeth and you're right Erika, the registrant was her husband. It says she was the wife of James Dennett, Clock Maker, death date 13 March 1844 at 23 Pinington Street, Liverpool. |

I think you’re right Erika, maybe a bit of hanky pinky at play! |

Almost certainly her husband |

So looking at the above, it looks like the 1844 death for Elizabeth is a very strong possibility because of the address. Therefore, if the Elizabeth born in 1840 is the correct year, then her parents would probably have been James and Elizabeth, and not James and Margaret, unless he was seeing Margaret while Elizabeth was still alive. I can't understand why I can't find her in the 1841 census. Is it worth getting that death certificate I wonder, maybe the person who registered the death would be a clue. |
