Fingers crossed that they will be able (and willing) to help you.

It doesn't answer all of your questions, in that the informant wasn't related, but at least it seems like you've got the right man.

If the care home are able to give you the address at which he lived before moving there, you could check the Electoral Roll at the local main library, and see if you can find him. ER's of that time are searchable only by address

hi jacqueline, thanks for your advice i acted on it and recieved the death certificate today, i am sure it is him his occupation is listed as retired kitchen porter, and address franklin house west drayton which is a care home, the name of the informant was anne gallagher qualification occupier i have emailed the home and will wait and see, johanna died a while ago and i would not be doing this if she were still alive because of her feelings

He would have kept the same number only if his service was continuous, and with the same Corps/Regiment.

To get a copy of his WW2 records, the applicant would have to be able to show that he/she is his NOK, and may be asked to prove he is deceased.

I can't think Johanna is alive, but if she is, and he didn't re-marry, she could apply and there would be no charge

Otherwise, the cost is £30.00. Your mother would have to be the one to apply

Not that his WW2 records will help with your quest, which is to find what he did and where he was after 1961.

You NEED that death cert......................the sooner you get it, the sooner you'll have an answer

rootgatherer Report 23 Jun 2015 12:05

If you know he served in WW2, I think your Mum can apply for his records. Not too sure about the rules for that but I'm sure another helper with more knowledge on that will tell us.

The marriage certificate will only say he's divorced if he gave that as his marital status. If the certificate gives his father's details that match those of your Stanley, you'll know if it is the right man.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 22 Jun 2015 22:11

Very few divorce records have survived for England and Wales I believe.

You would probably have to buy that marriage certificate to see if it is your Stanley.

During the 1960s it was just known as the Cavalry Club- it didn't merge with the Guards until 1976.

There is a Stanley J Fletcher on the electoral register (listed under staff) at the Cavalry Club (125/127 Piccadilly) in 1961.

From your postings on the other site

still searching, have found out that he worked in a hotel in cadogan place chelsea before the war, and then after the war from the late fifties until the early sixties at the calverley
club in piccadilly just hoping to find any other family members.

By googling........I found the correct name for the Club

It would probably be a good idea to obtain a copy of the death cert. The informant's details may prove useful
