I can only say thank you so much for all your help. All that you have found does make us think that George and Rebecca is the marriage we needed, as you say I will get a birth / marriage certificate for James John.

Just in the passing, this is the daughter Janet in 1891 at the same address as on Rebecca's death reg. she was still at that address when George died in 1895 but her surname was McDonald.

Thanks Chris. Missed that occupation for James's father. Will have another look but that 1881 census with James as a printer looked hopeful. Just wondering if George may have been a miller's labourer although on His death certificate and Rebecca's death certificate daughter Janet gives his occupation as a Carter.

1888 Marriage details were posted by Gins earlier, gives Father as George, occ. Miller, if any help rg...(leaves Scotland to you knowledgeable ones, lol) also notes witnesses look to be Father and Sister of Eleanor.


Also, if the Frederick James Paterson 1971 Middlesex Death ties in with 1888 Birth, then it gives date of birth as 7/6/1888. James and Eleanor Marriage 22nd April 1888.

Perhaps have another read through 'Thread' Lorraine, quite a bit to take in for you, just starting out!.

Lorraine, with such a common surname, you really need. James's marriage certificate to confirm his father's name and occupation if you want your tree to be accurate.

James's year of birth differs on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census.

To be sure of Maiden name of Mother, you need a Birth Cert. of one of children, unless you have one.

Thank you to you all for helping , can anyone find anything on jack paterson born between 1912 and 1917 possible born in Royston but maybe Emsworth which is where he was brought up I believe .
