Marcus

you are in fact cheating!

Yes, part of the purpose of this site is for members to help members BUT not when the member asking for help is either expecting to be paid for research they are doing for someone else OR are using our help in order to get a job

The Heir Hunters firm are testing YOUR capabilities as a researcher, not ours.

Assuming we do help you to get the job ............. will you then be coming back again and again asking for free help from on here.

Sorry, it's a definite no go from my point of view ............... and I hope no-one is fool enough to help you.

I do hope that you get the position if that is what you want, but please do it yourself, not by cheating!

Thank you Sylvia.

Precisely the point I was making in my post, which others seem incapable of understanding

Gritty

Gritty Report 20 May 2015 08:23

Jacqueline, just because some people may not share your opinion does not make them 'incapable of understanding'.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 20 May 2015 11:41

Not only 'my' opinion

Presenting someone else's work as your own is cheating..............end of

Apart from anything else, he'd soon be shown up as not being able to do the research himself...........and then where would he be?

I'm all for helping but would this be fair to the Research firm ?
A bit like writing a false CV for someone.

Marcus we would gladly help you research your own family but asking us to do your job is a bit much. Sorry.

I think you may have missed the point of my post Jacqueline

If you'd understood what this thread was about, one would have hoped you'd have had the good sense not to post info

I have fully understood what this thread is about.

I have understood your opinion on this thread.

However, I still feel you have missed the point of my post. I often find your comments unfriendly, hurtful and upsetting.

You have made your point Jacqueline.

There is no need to get personal.

Dear all,

I hear all your comments, regardless of whether you agree or not that I should use this site for work as a probate researcher. Thank you for them. The feedback is appreciated.

I have certainly opened a can of worms.

To those who say I am cheating. No. I am not cheating at all.

I am no expert, I cannot find everything - sometimes you just can't.
Call it a brickwall or even stupidity of not seeing it in the first place. We all have this from time to time - why else do we post on this forum?? - to get help!

The only thing that I can see irritating everyone, is that I MAY get paid for it - (that is if I get the job in the first place). I see that. I understand as well.

Mike, thank you for your most recent comment. I am beginning to see that this is probably the better thing to do. Keep work & private research separate.

I have had much help from many of you over the years I have been on this site, and hopefully have given good advice back myself.

People have their views, sometime strong ones, but please don't start getting personal. I'd soon rather have a good debate than a potential slanging match where thing may get out of hand.

Marcus

If you can get paid for researching, all well and good. I wish you luck

But, what you can't do is present someone else's work as your own.

You've been challenged to prove that YOU can find some specific info - YOU, not GR members using their paid-for resources on your behalf

If you don't know how to do that, I'm really not sure that you are suited to the work..........................and that is not in any way being anything other than realistic

Marcus

I wish all the luck in the world if you can get a paid job doing research.

BUT it is much harder than you seem to think ............. and it really is cheating to get other people to do the work for you

Yes, I am very willing to help you with research into your own family ............. but asking for help to do research that you hope will get you a job is the same as cheating in a major exam, or getting someone else to take your driving test for you.

It may get you the job ............. but then you are on your own, and have to prove that you can do it.

PLUS ........... the sites to which we all subscribe do have rules against ordinary members making use of their subscriptions in order to earn money. They can cut us off, and ancestry has been known to do that!

I was once cut off from accessing ancestry for 24 hours! I had spent several hours one night looking up information for 5 or 6 different members on here ............. ancestry said I had been looking for too many names, and denied me access.

I have been a wee bit more careful ever since!

A word of warning..these "heir hunters" monitor the major sites including GR and Ancestry. I know because I have been contacted on both sites because of a "name in my tree"

So they are probably seeing this thread............................

I have no problem using my time, relative experience and my subscriptions to both FMP and Ancestry to help a fellow amateur genealogist. I have a big problem doing it for "professional" reasons.

I too wish you luck in your chosen path but please do it on your own
