Did you read my response on 8th May at 10.36?
And you can’t ‘cross-check’ unless the tree owner shares his or her tree with you
Has the woman opened your message?

Thank you for your reply . David Lawson Baird was born in The Parish of Mains in the County of Forfar, Scotland in 1907.
He had a twin brother James Dewar Baird who obviously was born at the same date and in the same place
David married Edith Kathleen Kilpatrick in South Africa in 1939.
Edith was born in South Africa and had a sister Nellie who was born in Glasgow, Scotland and a brother William who was also born in South Africa.
Since the passing of my late cousins who were involved in tracing my family ancestry I decided to continue with what they had started.
I have found a family gravestone for the Baird Family in South Africa.
I replied to Belinda Douglas offering to share the information in my possession but I cannot find a family tree under the name of Belinda Douglas which I find odd.
I did not receive a reply from her.
I have never come across a situation where someone contacts you but does not seem to have a family tree on Genes Reunited where we can cross check historical information.
Regards,
Dougie.

I already have significant information about David & Edith Baird including birth & marriage certificates. With the amount of fraud going on just now with Covid 19 I am very careful.

A female should have her tree in her maiden name.
HOWEVER, she may not actually have her tree on GR - it isn't a requirement of membership. All that is needed is one's own name
You'll just have to wait for her to get back in touch
Alternatively, purchase copies of the couple's death certs for informants' details.

I have received an email from a lady named Belinda Douglas via Genes Reunited .This lady stated in her message that David Baird and Edith Baird(nee Kilpatrick) were her grandparents and that she was born in South Africa. I could not find a member tree with the name of Belinda Douglas which I found strange but I attempted to reply anyway but with no response. I have never come across this situation before where I receive a message via Genes Reunited but the original sender does not on the face of it appear to have a member's tree. Doug

After some time I have undertaken some additional research on behalf of my cousin into a family who emigrated from Scotland to South Africa.
I have concentrated to the youngest member of the family namely Edith Kathleen Kilpatrick who was born in South Africa in 1915 and married a Scotsman by the name of David Lawson Baird in Durban 1939.
I decided to concentrate on David Lawson Baird as I had no success in trying to find out any additional information about Edith.
I found that David Lawon Baird, his twin brother James Dewar Baird, his father David, mother Christine, brother Robert, and sister Anna had all emigrated from Scotland to South Africa in 1919.
I have now found out that David Lawson Baird died in South Africa in 1984 and his wife Edith Kathleen Baird died again in South Africa in 2008.
I am very sure that there are children born in South Africa from this marriage but my trail has gone cold.
My cousin has tried for many years to find out about this family.
Any assistance in finding out about any descendants of this family would be very appreciated.
Doug

Am nudging this thread up because
1. Dougie has a new thread about the same people
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1355490
2. Today is the 100th anniversary of the death of Edith Cavell - mentioned in the opening post
ADDED:
I see some jobsworth has flexed their little trigger finger and reported that other thread. Sad sad person. All I did was put a link to connect the two threads.

May I thank everyone for their assistance in my research.
My cousin in Australia has been trying to find out about this branch of his family for many years.
I decided to order some credits from Scotland's People as the South African Marriage Records to not seem to show the bride & groom's parents.
I can now discount Jean Smith Kilpatrick as her parents shown are not correct.
Samual MilliKen was born in Glasgow in1896
He had a twin brother John Milliken born on the same day(1896)
Samuel Milliken's mother Mary Milliken died in Glasgow aged 89 in 1955
Her address was given as 1 Summerfield Cottages,Whiteinch,Glasgow
This helps to confirm Alviegal's post
Nellie Kilpatrick & Samuel Milliken were both on the ship travelling to South Africa in 1923
What my cousin has been trying to find out over the years is what ultimately became of members of this branch of the family.
William Gibb Kilpatrick, Nellie Thorpe Kilpatrick, & Edith Kathleen Kilpatrick were cousins to his late father who was born in Scotland but emigrated to Australia in the 1920's
We know that William Gibb Kilpatrick had a daughter born in Portsmouth in 1944.
Did William's sisters have families?
The knowledge of members of GR is truly astounding.
Again thank you all for your assistance.

Good call Ann
Nellie's mother's maiden name was Thorpe
William Kilpatrick & Fanny Thorpe were married in Scotland in 1901.
I was told that they had emigrated to South Africa but that any children from the marriage were born in Durban,South Africa.
I have passed on the information given to my cousin in Australia.
Again I thank everyone for their assistance.

Thank you all for your responses.
My cousin in Australia had asked me to try to find out about Edith.
Edith also had a sister Jean Smith Kilpatrick who married a Peter Louis Du Plessis in Durban in 1936.
Du Plessis would appear to be a common name in South Africa.
I have also tried using this as an avenue of research but no joy.
David Lawson Baird was a twin born in Clepington Road Dundee in 1907.
His twin brother was James Dewar Baird.
I have tried looking at the Scottish Records for clues but again no joy.
I will take a look at Ellis Island to have a look about the possibility of them moving to the USA.
Again thank you all,
Dougie
