Another stuggle.
John Stovin and Ann marriage unknown, her maiden name unknown, birth places and when born also unknown.
Children Found one child, my Gt Gt Grandfather William Stovin born 1818 in Hull died 1882 Hull. Holy Trinity baptism record has father John's occupation as a Labourer.
By the time William got married in 1839 in Hull to Mary Ann Lamb his father was recorded as deceased but occupation listed as a fishmonger.
The only marriage index I have come across is John Stovin married to Ann Bray Holy Trinity Hull 11/10/1802 but this is some 16 years before the birth of William, now whilst that is not to be ruled out, it seems unlikely. I have trawlled the Holy Trinity microfiche and found nothing other than William's birth.
The only Ann Bray I can find was christened in Howden in 1776.
There is also a death record in the Holy Trinty for Ann wife of John died 1799 but this doesnt fit either (unless it was another wife).
I have been unable to find a death for either John or Ann.
I have found a John born to George Stovin and Elizabeth Eastland in Hull in 1793 but then a death for him in 1794 in Hull.
I also found John christened 12 AUG 1775 in Whitgift and another John christened 5 MAR 1786 Hook, he married an Ann Atkin in 1808 in Hook they had a son called John christened in Hook in 1809 then the trail goes cold. I have not been able to link them to Hull.
Any ideas where I can go now?

Sorry, Elaine, I can't find anything other than what you've already found, the records of which Ann has posted.
Parish records are notoriously patchy, of course - many have not survived, and many BMD's weren't recorded in the first place - it depended on the person keeping the records (or not keeping them!) in each church.

Thanks for the replies, I have all the information for William and his descendants, the census records posted are the correct family. Its the Parish records I'm struggling with prior to Williams birth.

William must have been earning quite a bit to pay fines like that :-) He & his father were both listed as tobacco pipemakers.
I dont have the census records 1841-1861 for William Snr but have all the later ones.
Quoy - thank you for that link .... indeed, I may be gone awhile!! Just browsed a few old records which are now in print so much easier on the eye!

Gritty - thank you. What I find amazing is that I work in the same street as William did in 1841!!
Across the top of the car park wall there are arches with plaques of the original street names, Black Boy pub is further up the street, I wonder that I walk on the same cobbled stone street as he did all those years ago ... WOW.
