Hi, This is my first post so please forgive me if I have given not enough or too much information. I am trying to trace information on the Mills family who resided at Frederick Street Islington. London. George E Mills 1860 Married Hannah (possibly) Donkin Children Edith E Mills 1880, Constance R Mills 1885, Ethel K Mills 1888, Harold E Mills 1883, Margaret H Mills 1894. I Believe that Constance Mills married Bernard W Eastoe in 1908 and had a daughter Margaret Eastoe in 1909 who also resided at the above address. I have found this information from the census records up to 1911 but after that date i am struggling. I have found a couple of really old threads that mention possible links and have sent messages, but due to the age of the threads I am not confident that I will receive a response. If anyone has any information or links to the family or can offer any help or advise I would love to hear from you. Thank you Karen x

Do you think the 1874 Chelsea marriage is for George ?
Hannah Donkin actually married Fred Levell Garner and not George Mills
On that marriage cert George Edward Richmond Mills married Sarah Ann Olds. George is shown as a corn merchant and so is his father Joseph

Catherine, Thank you so much for all this information, I am speechless that you located all this is such a short time. You are correct in thinking that it is Constance who I am more interested in, as I believe she was my great grandmother, If you do not mind me asking, do you know if there are any publications or ways of locating residents of a property after 1911. I am unable to work backwards as I have no living relatives on this side, so I just wondered how you can find out how long the residents of a property stayed there after 1911 ? Many thanks Karen x

Looks like the couple possibly had at least one child:-
Name: George Edward Mills Age in 1911: 51 Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relation to Head: Head Gender: Male Birth Place: Hartfield, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Islington County/Island: London Country: England Street address: 46 Frederick St, Holloway, Barnsbury N Marital Status: Married Occupation: MUSIC PUBLISHERS CLERK Registration district: Islington Registration District Number: 10 Sub-registration district: Lower Holloway ED, institution, or vessel: 10 Piece: 851 Household Members: Name Age George Edward Mills 51 Hannah Mills 52 Margaret Mills 17
xxxx Margaret Edstoe 2
EDIT:- Original shows Margaret Eastoe aged 2yrs as Niece and not Grandaughter, but it does seem a bit of a coincidence.

I really think that Margaret must have been the daughter of Constance as this looks to be her birth record:-
Name: Margaret Constance Eastoe Registration Year: 1909 Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar Registration district: Islington Inferred County: London Volume: 1b Page: 335
Maybe she is noted as niece as the couple married late 1908 and Margaret was born early 1909, rather quickly after the marriage, so it was maybe to cover up the fact that Constance was pregnant when she married???

Do you have access to Ancestry either at home or at your library ?
There is this database London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965
Which can be searched by name and location but sadly not really by address

Hi Karen, just noticed your earlier posting. If you are trying to link this family to someone in your tree, are you able to give us the name of the person as we may be able to work backwards for you?

Margaret was my grandmother and although she died several years ago, I remember her telling me that she spent her early years in Islington, and that her mother died when she was very young. The death of Constance in 1913 would tie in with what I was told. I have no idea who bought Margaret up and she never really talked about it when she was alive. She had a son in 1935 my father Anthony but was not married at the time, so I think everything was hushed up in the family and no one ever spoke about the family history, which is very sad. I am now going to see if I can at least put together part of a tree to hand down for future generations, but have seen already today from all your kind information, how easy it is for a novice to go down the wrong path. Think I have my work cut out lol xx

One of the most important things when doing your family tree is to buy some certificates to be sure you are on the correct track. Even then, people did tell some little white lies so they are not 100% reliable, but without them, anything you find is only speculation.
If Anthony was your father, do you have his birth certificate? If so, then what information does it give?
