I'm quite convinced that Andrew left Harriet and took up with Elizabeth M*donald (nee Farmer),changing his name to SPIRES.

A few trees on Ancestry have his mmn as SPIERS so that would make sense. His occupation,age and birth place are spot on in 1881 and 1891. He dies :

i have looked for a birth of andrew spiers but there is only one in 1841 and thats in cheshire so you could be right about andrew using his mothers maiden name there is no marriage to elizabeth

there is no death for andrew lintott and on daughters marriage says he died unless she was told as a child that he had died
