There are a number of other Dorsett/Spicer births in Wandsworth 1912-1922, including 2 other females who could possibly be the mother of Patricia.

There are also 2 other marriages where there is the chance of a William (first or second name) Dorsett marrying a Florence (first or second name), so Patricia's birth certificate needed

Only ever order from the GRO especially if the birth is registered in London as most London register offices will not issue certificates for family history purposes.

You can order online here:-

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

The certificate will cost £9. 25p including postage.

Some other sites will charge anything up to £25. £9. 25 is the cheapest you can pay.

Which is the cheapest way to get certificates? or is it the same wherever you order them from

Not certain that this will be the same family but this is the only Dorsett family in Battersea in the 1911 census:-

First name(s) Last name Relationship to household head Marital condition Gender Age Birth year Birth place Occupation

William Dorsett Head Married Male 26 1885 Middlesex Chelsea Carman
Florence Dorsett Wife Married Female 23 1888 Surrey Battersea
John Dorsett Son - Male 1 1910 Surrey Battersea
Florence Dorsett Daughter - Female 0 1911 Surrey Battersea

Address: 21 Blondel ST, Battersea, London

It is just possible that the daughter Florence could be Patricia's mother, but only buying Patricia's birth certificate will tell you for certain.

The mother's first name will be on the birth certificate. Then you can look for her birth.

Thanks - didn't know if there was any other way - or if her first name would be listed

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 3 Jan 2015 00:49

If you buy Patricia's birth certificate it will give her mother's full name and you can then look for her parents.

First name(s) PATRICIA
Last name DORSETT
Birth year 1934
Birth quarter 1
Registration month -
Mother's last name DORSETT
District BATTERSEA
County London
Country England
Volume 1D

If the father is not named on the birth certificate then it is unlikely that you will ever know his name.

Please can anybody help me with my research? My husband's mother was called Patricia Dorsett and was born 21 Jan 1934 in Battersea, London . She had a sister Nora Eileen. The birth record shows the mothers surname as Dorsett - this is the same for the sister as well. There is no surname for the father. All my husband knows is she was born in London then was evacuated to Wiltshire during the war. She was married 3 times, the 2nd husband was my husband's father. I am unable to go back any further than his grandmother. Any detectives out there? My husband is Mark Timson.
