Hi can anyone suggest how to look for someone that seems to just disappear. My great grandmother Millicent Osborne b 1880 Coventry is in the census records and she married my Great grandfather Albert Wallace in Nov 1900 in Coventry. In the 1911 census my great grandfather listed himself as widowed but we know this is not true. She left him and her children for whatever reason and was later seen some years later shopping in Coventry but nobody in the family really knows what happened to her. I have found a Millicent Osborne married to Albert Tooby in 1933 in Rugby and also Millicent Wallace married to William Brown in 1918in Aston irmingham. I do not know if she did in fact re- marry or even if they were divorced. Any ideas how I can find out what happened to her I would be really grateful for. Sandra Martin

Do you have her exact date of birth, this may help find a possible death for her?

If she did leave Albert for someone else but the couple didn't divorce, then she may have had to wait until after Albert's death to marry?

Hi Catherine, some of what you've found I already have. Birth date is 1880 +-1 no more. I don't know what to think about her situation. I think she left for someone else but don't know if she used married name Wallace or refered to herself as maiden name Osborne. My great grand father would only say she's dead and not talk about her and neither would my grand dad Herbert. I was told she went up to my grand dads twin some time after the war and to tell him who she was but he wouldn't have anything to do with her. I haven't found any death record that looks like it may have been her. Many thanks for all your help. Sandra

Despite lots of help from Ann Cardiff and Catherine I am still no further forward with finding out what happened to my great grandmother Millicent Osborne also known as Minnie Wallace After 6 more years of searching I feel like giving up but can't seen to stop myself. I need a new way of going forward. I have gone sideways and back but still no luck I have looked at overseas records with no luck. Ship logs with no luck although thought I had her for a while. What happened to Millicent Wallace nee Osbourne sometimes known as Minnie??

If you have an exact DOB for her there is a possibility that she could be found on the 1939 register if still alive. This would depend on the record there being correct of course. Many records seem to pop up with day and month correct, but the year out.
She could also have taken up with someone else and be living under his name, there's nothing to say she kept her married name or reverted to her maiden name.

Birth is easily found on freebmd JAS qtr 1879
If you obtain a copy of the cert, you’ll know her exact DOB, which could prove helpful

Unfortunately, some people do just seem to disappear from the records, in spite of exhaustive searching.
I'm sure most of us have someone like that in our trees. I certainly have.
