I have to start going to bed at night :-)
yes, Catherine is not going to have a sister Catherine, that's what I'd been saying at the outset ... I think ... and then I lost my mind! Catherine Murphy in Philadelphia could be Joseph's cousin, niece of Joseph's mother Catherine (daughter of her brother) at best
and of course this would make Mary Murphy Perry Tasker a cousin of Joseph as well
there might well be some family connection between those Murphys, but there might just as well not be :-)

Sorry Joonie, I'm confused
"so no sister Catherine ... that we know of ."
maybe I misunderstood, I thought in your previous post you were asking about Catherine Murphy's siblings (ie. Aunts and uncles to Joseph), which I posted at top of page 2. Catherine was the daughter of Michael Murphy and Mary Lynskey and had at least 2 siblings, Ned and Bessie.

here we are Barbara, I think this is Mary Murphy Perry Tasker's first marriage
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JV84-26J
Mary Murphy Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951 Name: Perry Spouse's Name: Mary Murphy Event Year: 1897 License Number: 98998 Image Number: 00392 , Digital Folder Number: 4141877
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JV8F-Z9S
Edward Perry Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951 Name: Edward Perry Spouse's Name: Murphy Event Year: 1897 License Number: 98998 Image Number: 00167 , Digital Folder Number: 4141908
and just for completeness, this is the flip side of the Tasker-Perry marriage I posted earlier (realizing now that each spouse's record has to be found to see the two full names, for PA marriages)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JVD5-SXH
Charles J Tasker Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Marriage Indexes, 1885-1951 Name: Charles J Tasker Spouse's Name: Perry Event Year: 1909 License Number: 235950 Image Number: 00013 , Digital Folder Number: 4141929
here is a Catherine Murphy born in Mayo c1879 in Liverpool in 1901
Name: Catherine Murphy Age: 22 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1879 Relation to Head: Daughter Gender: Female Father: John Murphy Mother: Mary Murphy Birth Place: Mayo, Ireland Civil Parish: Walton on the Hill Town: Liverpool County/Island: Lancashire Registration district: West Derby
John Murphy 60 c1851 Mayo Mary Murphy 60 Catherine Murphy 22 Annie Murphy 20 John Murphy 30
Joseph's mother Catherine Murphy Dean was born c1858
do you know anything about who her siblings were?
btw numerous Catherine Murphys (to use only that spelling) married in Philadelphia in the 1920s and 1930s and the records available at familysearch give no info that could identify them

Thank you all for the information. Sorry I have not been back sooner but unfortunately I have not been well today.
I found the US 1910 census on familysearch and it had Charles Tasker Mary Tasker 1877 Wife Agnes Murphy 1891 Sister in law Katherine Murphy 1879 Sister in law
This points to Mary his wife being a Murphy
My Gt Grandmother was Kate Murphy who married John Dean in 1869 in Ballina Ireland . They then came to England and all their children were born in Leeds Joseph Ambrose Dean was my Gt Uncle but I had never heard any mention of him.
Thanks again Barbara

he is a different person, that's the point :-)
the death in 1962 is very likely Abraham Joseph and not Joseph Ambrose
but Tenerife Sun you have just tossed yet another different Joseph into the pot
the one in that 1901 census is older, he is almost certainly this one
Births Mar 1888 DEAN Joseph Appleyard Bramley 9b 385

No, I thought there might be several births, but unless by complete coincidence someone moved into the area, it definitely looks a strong possibility.

yes, I posted the link to that 1930 census with Mary Tasker and stepson Frank :-)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XHZR-2TY
but since we don't have much reason to think they are related ...
Backs makes sense. Someone in the household wrote the info on the census schedule but it's hard to say who since the signature itself on the form is an x.
edit ... 1930, 1940 ... :-) main thing is, Joseph was simply boarding with them in 1920 as far as we know
Catherine Murphy from the 1920 could be of interest but I can't find any Cath* Murphy in 1930 or 1940 who isn't either married or a widow
it might be worth checking possible passenger records that might match her to see whether any potentially useful info turns up ... I can't do that, no proper sub
I would still guess she was just another boarder though ...
