When I ordered Irish certificates ( for pre 1922 events), I ordered them from the GROIRE in Roscommon. Recently on another thread someone posted a link to a site that you could buy credits and view the details online. Blowed if I can find the thread now. I was searching for it yesterday to view details of one of my many Irish ancestors.

Been away for a couple of days, but this is confusing me, "Yes that is the same 1901 I have found" - the one I posted was 1911, and I don't think it is the same family.

Not ordered Irish certificates, so don't know which site to suggest.

Which is the best site to order certificate's of for Ireland, I didn't realise it's been over 2 years since I ordered Mary's birth and can't for the live of me remember?

Sarah Report 24 Sep 2014 12:30

Yes that is the same 1901 census I have found :-)

Where was the O Reardan one found? At the start of all my searching I was told that the surname was O'Reirdon! It was only through getting certificates that I discovered family had told me wrong

I wonder about this one - the "O" appears to have been added, it was not on the summary form:

That's the marriage I posted yesterday as a possibility as Hannah was sometimes shortened to Ann or Anna. I had searched under Reardon as often illiteracy was fairly common at that time.

Roots

Yes, that seems to eliminate that one!

Only just managed to get on today!
Thank you everyone for looking
someone on another site messaged me this earlier

"John Riordan married Hannah Dennehy in 1868 at Castletownroche.
Baptismal years and places for the children of John Riordan and an unknown Dennehy (you’ll probably have to spend the 4 euros for each to see if it is some derivation of Hannah).

1869 Denis Castletownroche
1870 Ann Castletownroche
1874 John Castletownroche
1876 Daniel Glanworth
1878 Honora Kilworth
1881 Mary Fermoy
1885 Ellen Fermoy
1888 Elizabeth Fermoy
1888 Jeremiah Fermoy"

This again seems to be guiding me in the direction of this family, so now need to go and find as much info as I can :-/

I have found his military record and in 1900 he went to south Africa for 1 year 255 days

I have the 1911 census of Mary and George and there 6 children, unfortunately my great Nan is just down as infant lol

I'm 90% sure it's Dennehy, having compared the letters to those in other words on the cert - unfortunately there is no other capital D (unless the registrar's name is John Daly, which does match I think!) . The 'hy' looks pretty clear - I think so anyway.
Would someone else have a look please|?

If family stories are to be believed, I think Ellen Riordan found with Anne on the 1901 census married James Walsh and emigrated to America in 1908 along with her son Jerimiah - going to husband in New York.

On the 1920 US census they have an adopted son, John Riordan age 12 born in New York.

So you could be on to something with the family you found.

Flip

Flip Report 23 Sep 2014 10:22

I see she is in the barracks at Colchester in 1901, but where was George - do you know his age? Also, have you found them in 1911 to see if any of her relatives turn up?

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 23 Sep 2014 10:13

Have had a look at cert. I think maiden name begins with a D - if I was forced to guess I would say it's something like Dennehy??
Witnesses to Mary and George's marriage were William Rice and mary Gordon/Cordon. Residence just Formoy.
