It does look to be the same family as on 1901 - they have a Charles, a Thomas and a Henry of the right ages but Shae said they were not together on 1911 as the 2 boys were in a home ???

Wow. Where did you find that Dea? I've only seen one without Charles jnr and Thomas on it in the 1911 census.
Lots of kids eeek, I can see where my mother got her middle name from, Adelaide.
I didn't know all these people existed lol

If the record Ricochet posted is the correct one then it shows that Charles was in the Bantam Battalion 4th (or 14th) Worcestershire Regt. so that must be where Thomas was too ?

The documents were stamped by an Officer of the 14th Gloster Regt.

Shae - can you post the 1911 where you had found the father and his new wife without Charles and Thomas because if that one is right then mine and the army record can't be???

There are several photo's of the men on there and there looks to be quite a lot of 'small people' (Bantams) amongst them.

Charles was posted to France in jan 1916, then transferred to the Labour Corps in may 17

he was recorded as being gassed a number of times in 1916
he spent quite a lot of the time in Rouen

His Victory medal was posted on 21 dec 1920 to the address on his enlistment.

You say the mother's name was Annie barrett

Where does that come from?

The wife of Charles snr in 1911 was called Mary, and the census image shows that they had been married 18 years, and had 7 children, all still alive

It might pay you to get a copy of this

I believe the 'married 18 years' is probably a mistake on Charles's part Ricochet - 'He' probably completed the form and 'he' had been married for 18 years - you will see the first marriage to 'Johanna' Barrett in 1894 which I posted on page 1.

Shae says that Annie (Johanna) died soon after Thomas was born but I haven't found this (I will take another look).

Mary appears to be his second wife although I am not sure they were actually married as I can not find an entry for this as yet.

Sorry, Dea, missed the marriage you added. my excuse is the heat and the late hour...........lol!

Having looked again at the image, I can see that the 18 has been added in a different hand, and would, in any case indicate a marriage c1892

Unfortunately, there are no baptism records for the children on line; they'd have been useful

Copies of birth certs for the first and last child, at least, would seem to be essential

Re Johanna/Annie' death, I've been told childbirth and consumption. Don't know which. So Charles must have had Charles jnr and Thomas in the catholic home before meeting Mary. I must have had the wrong census record re only Charles, Mary and Henry being listed. I read all about the 4 Worcestershire Regiment. Very interesting reading. Lots of poor fellows being shot for desertion and cowardice. I had no idea that was as prevalent as it seems. Poor buggars, especially the young ones, ie 20 yrs old etc. Where did you,find the info about Charles Richard Taylor being gassed etc? I now remember my mum telling me that. xox
