Samuel H's occupation matches the Irish 1911

Funnily enough, I saw that Stott family in Govan earlier this evening and was drawn to it because Wilfred's middle name was David. Shipbuilding was thriving in Govan at that time and drew workers from all airts and pairts !

So it looks like David Stott and Mary Ann Shaw may have been first cousins?

The date of birth given earlier for Wilfred David of 1911 doesnt match my fathers date of 1912. I have already sent for his marriage certificate. will send for Samuels certificate to his second wife and also Wilfreds birth certificate. Thank you for all your help.

Brenda, if you don't have your father's birth certificate then how do you know when he was born?

Do you have any other documents that give his date of birth?

The death is registered in the first quarter of 1938 and age 26. What Ancestry (and some other sites) does is deduct the age from the death year to give an estimated birth year (similar as to how birth years are calculated on census records).

However, some logic needs to be applied. The birth registration was in the third quarter of 1911 (I'll post it again for comparison). Someone who was born then would be 26 years old (not having reached their 27th birthday) if they died at the beginning of 1938.

Brenda, wait until you get your Dad's birth certificate before you order any marriage certificates for his father. My personal opinion is that you will then actually want the marriage certificate for Samuel's first marriage to Sarah Jane Hartling, as this is your direct line.
