Sylvia Report 23 Apr 2014 23:36

I haven't been on today.
What I was looking at was border crossings from Canada to the U.S .
I was wrong saying James was with Margaret. Having looked again just now. James is named as Margarets relative.
Sorry to mislead you, it was a very late night/early morning when I looked this up.

Chris , me neither but she seems to think that James and Maggie were together "going out to Canada" as she put it --they left Scotland at different times so she must be refering to leaving Maine together I`m assuming . Maybe she found something we haven`t found . Another puzzle to crack .

Hi Chris , was Sylvia saying that both James and Maggie went to Maine or was she refering to both of them coming to Canada?

Sylvia , you seem to have read the report and I haven`t seen it . I didn`t know James was with her . How do I get to see the report ?

Sylvia

Sylvia Report 23 Apr 2014 02:10

Pat, it did also say that brother James was with Margaret going out to Canada. I have been looking but must go now. I wish you luck.

Hi Sylvia , yes the info from the Canadain great war project is definitely my grandfather, and the other info must be his sister Margaret. Too much of the info is the same to be a coincidence. I assume she returned to Canada but maybe she stayed and married in Maine . I have to do a lot of searching of American records now . But at least its a new direction to go in whereas before I was at a dead end. Now I know she was still called Mulheron up to 15 Apr 1915. All little pieces try to put together. Wish me luck .
And thanks much to Chris Ho for taking time to help me.

More good solid info , thank you very much. I`ve always suspected that she may have gone to the states . There is so little info in Canada . Now I`ll start looking in American sites . Never was any doubt about James fate but I`ve often wondered about Margarets adventures and the thought that there may be relatives living nearby. Just have to keep on looking . Thanx much for all the help and time you have spent helping .-Pat

Hi Maureen, nice to hear from someone who has an interest in this mystery. The only info on his papers say that she (Margaret) was listed as
Mrs. W.M. Cartherny
c/o Geo Thomson
RR#2
East Mountain
Nova Scotia
and that she also had an address at
2 Barker St
Saint John New Brunswick
she also had the initials after her name that look to be 'RNS'. I don`t know what this means --perhaps "Royal Nursing Sister " just a guess.
Also there is an address saying she can be contacted at C/O Hon. J.D.Hazen Hazen Castle Saint John N.B.
There is not much more info available --I simply cannot trace the name "Cartherny"---I hope you can help --thank you --Pat

I've not been able to find anything on these people.

Has anyone spotted them in 1911?????

Pat- you wrote " Margaret was the sister of my grandfather Hugh who was killed in Tilloy France in 1918. While he was in France , her name changed on his documents as next of kin --from Margaret Mulheron to Mrs. W.M. Cartherny . I have no place or time of marriage . I do know however that W.M. Cartherny had an address of East Mountain Nova Scotia. Margaret was living in Saint John NewBrunswick at the time.*

Are there any specific addresses given?

Maureen

Hi Cynthia , the military info you found is correct . Years ago(2004) I hired a firm called 'British Ancestors " to find what info they could and they found quite a bit actually going back further than James birth . What they told me about James was he was born on June 21st 1889 at 7a.m. at Fordneuk Street Glasgow and his sister Margaret was born on 15 May 1891 at Camlachie Glasgow .Over the years I managed to contact his relatives still living in Glasgow but they were unable to shed any light on the Cartherny name nor do they know what happened to Margaret . She not only disappeared in North America but in Europe also . But I will check out the names you`ve provided as you never know where the missing answer will come from .
I was just checking my papers again before I send this note and I forgot to add a detail that again was almost gone from my memory ----that is at the time of James birth the whole family spelled their name "Mulhern " and changed the spelling at some point in time for whatever reason I don`t know. But I was told that some people changed the spelling of their names when they came to North America . I have so many papers in front of me regarding this family me that its easy to confuse details that I haven`t seen for a few years (10) Thanks again -Pat

Pat,

Have you checked other member's trees on this site? There are many with the name Mulheron in them and a few have a James.

However, you have James down as being born in 1889 but, checking on the Scotland's people website, there wasn't such a birth in 1889.

It may be worth checking with the other members on here and also looking at Scotland's People for clarification.
