James Report 22 Feb 2014 20:10

Thanks, Marie Celeste & Maureen for all the info so far. Regarding youngest of the 4 sisters Hannah, there are 4 Hannah's on the US Social Security Death Index all with the same date of birth as her (7 Aug 1909) so was wondering if any of these were her married name. If so do you know of any marriage details. They are

Hannah Berger. Died 14 April 1995.
Hannah Hall. Died June 1979.
Hannah Marantz. Died 24 May 1996.
Hannah Shea. Died August 1987.

Margaret McMackin - The US City Directories in 1952 & 1955 show a Margaret McMackin as a domestic at 120 Elk Avenue ?. Would this be the same one as the one on my tree. I don't have the documents with me, they were seen in the local family history centre here a few days ago. Is it possible that Margaret never married as not on the Westchester County Archives details sent to me earlier by Marie....then again neither was Hannah and she may be one of the 4 listed above.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 22 Feb 2014 20:47

James, I haven't come across any marriages to match those names but it may well be that they married after the available records end - not all records are on line. The Westchester Archives go to 1935.

I think you may be able to send for the social security records but they cost round $30 each.

Can I ask what access to US records you have (e.g. Ancestry Worldwide)? Just so can have a think about where to go next. Some of the O'Shea sons may very well still be alive - tracing one of them may answer your questions.

James,

The obituary for Francis Mathers also has some very unusual names. Easily traced using Google.

Would you be comfortable contacting them yourself?

Hi Marie....I have an account with ancestry but just a basic one...not the worldwide one which costs about £19 per month to access. I can get free access from the family history centre about 15 mins walk from here. Was there a couple of days last week but as I am back at work again on Monday after a week off, I can only go there on their 1 evening they are open on a Tuesday night.

Maureen....the obituary details I have still to put the details onto my tree. Have put all the info on the tree that is showing on this thread .Will put the other details on tomorrow and see where to go from there...getting late now as 12.30am here.

:-) :-) :-)

James- meet mgnv.
Malcolm's links are to be trusted. <3

Just a laugh-but at some point when Marie contacted me about this thread she said she was so tired that she needed "mathsticks" to keep her eyes open.

;-)
Best wishes,
Maureen

Maureen - that was not a typo, they're special props for eyes that are tired from calculating ages on arrival, year of marriage on census etc. :-D ;-)

If you don't mind sending me the obit that has the unusual names on (or telling me where to find it) then I can dig around the public records index and see if I can come up with anything for James.

Mo - they were custom made for me, obviously they have to be a precise fit otherwise terrible injuries could be inflicted.

James Report 24 May 2014 19:31

Hi...I have put all the info given on here to my tree and also private messages sent to me by the other posters on here. I have now got all the info on 1 sister (Catherine) and all the info on Anna or Annie until her husbands death in 1943 but nothing at all after that.

As for Margaret, I heard from daughter of one of her brothers who went to Montréal. From the info given by her it looks like the Margaret Mcmackin I saw ages ago on the 1952 & 1955 US city directories (see post at 20.10hrs on 22 Feb 2014) is the correct one. I was told that she was a domestic servant in White Plains and the address showing in that post is in New Rochelle which I believe is in White Plains and she married late in life, the other info I received seemed to indicate she married after 1958. She was later admitted to a physciatric hospital in New York where she later died. The brother had been notified of the death so it must have been before his own death which was in Nov 1973.

Was therefore wondering if she got married to one of the family she was the domestic servant for ? Would the US City Directories give the names of all the adult residents in the house ?

Still haven't found anything on the youngest sister Hannah apart from the 1930 census entry....in previous post on 22 Feb I mentioned 4 possible Hannah's with her date of birth so was wondering if any of them may be on a later census (1940 ?) showing as being born in Ireland
