From what I can remember there was a discussion between 2 of GR's Military Minded Members, that the Henry was in the Royal Army Ordnance >Corps< - not a Battalion or Regiment.

His service records would still be with the MOD if you wanted more accurate details. They can be purchased for £30 (free if his widow can sign the form). Follow the links from here

To delete a thread, click on the Delete link – not recommended as this is now the only one on GR. It only works if you are the opening poster.

If you wanted to remove your own post in the body of someone else’s thread, then do the same. Aside from GR, only the Originator of a thread can delete the whole thing.

The person/s who report threads doesn't normally own up

Although this should not have been reported, I cannot understand why GR have kept this one and deleted the one with useful replies

But that just goes to show that as I have always thought, GR do not read the threads

It has been posted on military chat.....I would imagine that was the reason for this one being reported

Reggie - "Post this on Military Chat" - a bit misguided, that (although I admit I can't see the original post).
Certainly during WW2, not everyone who completed National Service did it in the military - 10% of those conscripted served as miners - the so-called Bevin's boys. The last of these completed their service in 1948.

I'm sure I read a while back that Reggie is not a man, but a lady ;-)

As you have been a member since 2005 you should really know the 'polite' rules of the boards. ie one post on one board for a specific query.

Posting the same request on 2 boards is frowned upon, purely because some people will not look at all the boards, and you will get the same replies from many people. Nothing annoys members more than doing a lot of research for another member only to find out that it has all been done on another Board. Remember people are using their subs to help you.

Stick to one board (common practice) and you will get all the help you need from that one post.

I have been around quite a while and I still would not like to be "spoken" to the way some posters get treated.
There is a world of difference between being "To the point" and being "Blunt". It is perfectly possible to be "To the point" without the risk of causing possible offence.

Remember that the responsibility for communication rests firmly with the communicator.

I'd hate to be someone new to the boards if I was greeted with some of the sharp remarks on this thread.

It doesn't encourage newbies to post in fear of being accused of wasting someone's time.

please try and be sensitive to people who are not as aware of the rules as some of you on this site.

Again I thank those of you who posted support and recommendations on how to reply to post in a polite and helpful manner

I may have been a member since 2005 I don’t use GR everyday so do not have the experience others have.

Yes it is fun and interesting to look for things yourself and I do as much researching as I can from the avenues I have in Ancestry (where I have helped others with their search) Free BDM and Family Search .org.
If I have to ask for help on GR I always appreciate the time people take, as I said until now people have always been kind.
I tried to do the right thing for my friend by posting on the correct board, in future I will use as you suggested Find Ancestors  it will avoid some of the unnecessary comments

Clearly being long term members some individuals have not been taught It's not what you type but the words and tone you type !!!!

tact and diplomacy are missing whatever happened to giving advice in a polite, friendly and pleasant manner?

Some comments ARE very abrupt and snappy and I would be most upset if they were aimed at me. 

I always try to do it in a pleasant and positive way - that is how I was brought up.

For heaven's sake, It should be perfectly possible to give guidance without making people feel small.

Long term membership of this site is not a sign of knowledge as to how the boards work.

posting the same query on more than one board just causes a possible duplication of effort...but we've all been there done that I suspect....but only once

ive been on here since 2002 and I still don't know all the rules,it depends on how much help your asking for,if you ask for a lot of help,then I think you learn along the way,if you don't ask for help much,then its trial and error.

No Reggie you don't do waffle but can at times be irritatingly blunt. (and that my friends is about as impolite as I get)

Not everyone has the same degree of confidence as most of us do when it comes to posting on internet forums. I know I'm not perfect and can be terse with people who refuse to co-operate but I do always try to be welcoming to new posters and do always, when necessary, try to explain the relevance of what I'm posting rather than just throw information at them. I don't consider any of that as "waffle".
