According to the info I posted in Alan's other thread, there was also a Peter George born in 1910; he is shown on a WWI era record with his son, and the son is in the current telephone directory.
Also I found Ernest Walter in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in WWI and marrying in Halifax Nova Scotia and returning to England with a child in 1921, and explained how to find that child's children in the current telephone directory.

if that was for me, of course I agree, Peter/George the elder was one person
my info was that there was someone with the same name born in 1910 who is clearly related, and his child can be found in the telephone directory
THIS thread is about the same family as the OTHER thread, which is why I wanted to let people in THIS thread know what info had been found in the OTHER thread
since Alan actually said he is 'looking for members of the family' ... THIS thread is not ABOUT Peter/George Giot, it is about the Giot family
I was not actually addressing one single person or the info he had put in this thread .........

i have been speaking to my aunt. in 1881 Guernsey census George Peter,, definitely George P. no evidence that Peter G was living in Guernsey. same year, 1881 George's wife was Elizabeth,, Peters wife was Maria. by 1891 in Guernsey, Georges wife was Maria. Georges wife Maria was 10 years younger than Peters Maria. Georges Maria was born in Guernsey, and Peters Maria was born in Jersey My aunt has said that there does not seem to be enough information to go on. Reggie, i see that you have found Peter George in 1901 Jersey census. George was living over here in Guernsey then things dont seem to add up??

As you seem to have access to censuses, I don't think there is anything further I can do for you.............
You say George was in Guernsey in 1901..........post the census for our info
You make statements about 'Maria'..............please post the documentary evidence - again for our info
It would also be good if you commented on all the info people have found for you
And you seem unwilling to accept that Constant and his wife had only ONE son

Post the proof, please..................
And you seem not to have considered that Elizabeth may have died and been replaced by Maria............
You must look at ALL the info found for you............not just selected snippets

You make reference on here to 'courtesy'
I see you have just deleted a thread on which I posted what I hoped would be helpful info.......where is the 'courtesy' in that?
Was that because I asked you today to acknowledge the link to another member which I has posted on Jan 12th?
A somewhat extreme reaction - deleting a thread rather than just managing to post the words 'thank you'
Apologies, Alan, for using your thread to communicate with another member.................but, needs must.

Alan, I mentioned in the other thread that the geopatronyme site for France shows the surname Giot since 1891 concentrated in the Department of Manche (which is the peninsula directly east of Jersey)
the Department directly east of Manche is Calvados which also had a concentration of the name
In googling 'constant giot' I found this and thought, just in case the name is a traditional one in the family ...
http://edecideur.info/edecideur/0113Z/GIOT-YOANN-FERDINAND-CONSTANT-GIOT-YOANN-FERDINAND-CONSTANT-533787578.html
Yoann Ferdinand Constant Giot is a farmer in Russy which is in Calvados there is an address at that link
(the nonsense about Tennessee at that page seems to come from some error in the longitude/latitude)
the name Giot is also present in Belgium but I expect your source is really the area of Manche in France
The thing in these threads is that people would simply like to know that you are acknowledging the info provided
for instance I have given you ways of contacting descendants of Constant Giot via Hilda and Ernest (the person you asked about in the other thread and about whom I found considerable information) and I have no idea whether you plan to do that, if not then finding that information was a bit of a waste of time
Do you know the various people who have corrected the name 'Giot' at Ancestry?
I would certainly contact them if not,
If you are looking to know about the family then contacting members of that family or people who know about it really seems the reasonable route to take.
I'm not sure we know your own connection to the Giot family even ...
as for the recent comments in this thread, they and the thread they pertain to have nothing to do with your thread here so please just disregard them :-)
also just to add this as a summary this is the actual census info as transcribed at Ancestry
Name: George Girt [George Giot] Birth: abt 1856 - St. Martin, Jersey, Channel Islands Residence: >> 1861 - Trinity, Jersey, Channel Islands
Name: George Jiot Birth: abt 1855 - St Martin, Jersey, Channel Islands Residence: >> 1871 - Petits Angres, Trinity, Jersey, Channel Islands
Name: George P. Giot Spouse: Elizabeth Giot c1852 St Helier Jersey Birth: abt 1855 - St Martin, Jersey, Channel Islands Residence: >> 1881 - St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands children Elvine Giot 2 Eldo Giot
Name: George Gion Spouse: Elaria Gion c1841 St Sampson Guernsey Birth: abt 1836 - TX, St Martin Residence: >> 1891 - Military District, St Martin, Guernsey, Channel Islands children Elvina Gion 12 Hilela Gion 10 Ada Gion 9 Ernest Gion 7 Argle Gion 76
Name: Peter G Giot Spouse: Maria Giot Birth: abt 1856 - St Martins, Jersey, Channel Islands Residence: >> 1901 - St Helier, St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands children Elvina Giot 21 Hilda Giot 19 Ernest Giot 17
Obviously the children
Elvine/Elvina Eldo/Hilela/Hilda Ernest
are the same 1881-1891-1901
so obviously George (P) and Peter G are the same person in Jersey all years but 1891 when they were in Guernsey
and obviously he had remarried between 1881 and 1891, possibly in Guernsey

Dear Joonie Cloonie. Thank you for getting back to us. No no it has not been a waste of time ,,on anyones part. Yes, after all these posts, it does show that there IS a need for me to get in touch with the surviving Giot's in Jersey. Today, i have sent a letter explaining my family tree interest to the Jersey Evening Post asking if a Giot family member would like to get in touch with me on this subject. I ve done it this way, in case there are others over there who could be related who might also be interested, or are able to help. I could have phoned one of the Giot's, but felt that this would have been out of the blue to them, and could have been off putting. I also need, at some point soon, to go down to Jersey to look at the public records. That information that you ve just posted sounds Really interesting, that is certainly something else for me to look at. Im So Glad that You, and the others have Responded, Even if it is Different/ Conflicting information that My Aunt and myself have. It is so important to get the Correct Information than to go ahead and put in a load of mumbo jumbo THANK YOU ALL :-) :-)

Constantin was from Manche as were almost all of the French workers who came to Jersey during the 19th Century, others came mainly from Brittany.
Constantin was born on 8th June 1811 in the canton of St-maurice-en-cotentin, his father was Pierre Giot aged 38 at the time of Constantin's birth. His mother's name is not mentioned on the birth registration however there is a marriage in the same canton on 16/1/1811 between Pierre Francois Félix Giot and Jeanne Francoise Angélique Lerouvillois.
Constantin married Aglaé (and I'm not convinced by any of the spellings of her name) Le Mouton on 18/12/1852 at St Thomas' Roman Catholic Church in St Helier. The marriage certificate names his father as Pierre and hers as Henri Francois, she was from Haye du Puits.
I have found a birth for an Amélaide Ernestine Le Mouton in Haye du Puits, Manche born 28/1/1821, father Henri Francois mother Francoise Webre.
It seems likely that this is her, just depends how you feel about her varying years of birth on the censuses.
Moving forward. St Helier Town Church baptisms
Baptism 25/07/1880 Birth 01/07/1880 Elda Louise Giot Father George Peter Mother Elizabeth Sophie De La Haye Father's Occupation Farmer Godparents Father Mother A. Le Feuvre.
30/12/1883 01/12/1883 Ernest Walter Giot George Peter Sopia Elizabeth De La Haye Baker John Philip De La Perrelle and Elizabeth Jane Pirouet
So that's wife No 1 - I'll see if I can find her death next week.

You haven't offended anyone.......well, not me, anyway. It wasn't I who moaned about the perceived lack of courtesy
My comment about the deleted post was not addressed to you...........if you read it carefully, you will see that.
BUT...........you MUST take note of what is posted on here............otherwise there is no point in your asking us to help you.

Reggie , point taken, when these discrepancies were hilighted , it started to dawn on me that i needed to find, and try and make contact with surviving Giot' either in Jersey, or the UK, which i am trying to do now. As i have said previously, my Aunt did the initial research, and drew up a tree based on her findings. i have been trying to find more info based on that. i live in Guernsey, and she lives in the UK, so trying to find the time, and waiting for replies can take some time. the best times for me to get onto a computer and digest incoming messages is either now,, 6.00 am, when my brain cells are waking up, or sometime after 5.00 pm after i have put our evening meal in the oven [wife is at work] i can briefly look at messages on my mobile during the day during breaks. I DO Appreciate All you guys are doing for me, and have been a Big help. kind regards to you all :-)

Hi All. Just to update you all. I ve made contact with the Giot Family in Jersey, they have said that Family matters were not talked about much if at all. might have been because they have found, since their father died, some skeletons, but they were happy for me to get in touch and ask. anything that either of us find out, we are happy to pass on to each other. A James from CI Family History Society has come on board after my Radio interview on Radio Jersey, have also been given a Canadian address for a Giot Family Member, so hopefully will hear from them at some time. So, there we are, I have Been offered assistance from several people in Jersey when i am eventually able to go down there, which i am entirely Grateful for. I can also see that I will have to go to St Maurice en Cotentin. Once again,, I do very much Appreciate your getting in touch and giving me alot of information that I would not have found out about :-)
