Can anyone help me find the death record for my great grandfather. He was born in 1867 in St Pancras, London. He was married to Mary Allen on the 26 Sept 1886. His parents were William G Burt (1835-1881) and Isabella Burt (1837-1916) Any info would be great xx

What is the last census or other record that you've found him on?

Could this be him in 1911 with a second wife? They've only been married 3 years.

If Margee's 1911 family is correct then the family lived in Willesden according to electoral rolls, so this maybe George's death,

Thank you for your replies.....this has confused me somewhat? George (1866) born married Mary Ann Allen in 1886 and they had children Nelly -1889 George -1891 Isabel - 1896 Harry - 1897 (my grandfather) Albert - 1898
It does state on his wedding banns to Mary Allen that he was a Carman (as stated above) but i have not come across the above names any of the other names listed??
Please can you advise how you knew they were only married for 3 years.
Many thanks in advance x

The 1911 census asks the Question ''How long have you been married'' and the answers were recorded, in this case 3 years

This is Nelly as the address of Schofield Rd is given,
Historical Records London, England, School Admissions and Discharges, 1840-1911 about Nellie Burt Name: Nellie Burt Age: 10 Birth Date: 25 Dec 1888 School: Cottenham Road School Borough: Islington Admission Date: 28 Aug 1899 Parent: George Burt Notes: Cottenham Road School (0181) opened 1873, later Hanley School from 1938. In 1951 Hanley Secondary School became Archway Secondary School for Girls. Hanley Primary School became Hanleigh Primary School in 1951 Reference Number: LCC/EO/DIV03/COT/AD/007
Has Harry ever been found on the 1911 census? I see George and Isabel with their Grandmother Allen, Albert is with his father so it's just Nellie and Harry that I can't find and wondered if they were together?

Jessie married Frederick Edmunds, no part of your ancestors..... If her name could be spelt differently they often did that.
This is George jnr,

@ Batmansdaughter..... Many thanks for your reply......there is very little on Harry sadly (as i would have loved to know more on my grandfather) All i have is: birth cert born 28th Feb 1897, parents Mary (formally Allen) and George. Death cert, died 18th March 1966.
I also have the wedding cert to my grandmother.....this proved difficult as they were married on the 18th Aughust 1945. It states my grandfather was a widower but unable to track a first marriage for him. I found 1 marriage and ordered cert this was to a Norah Alice on August the 6th 1922 in Penge, Kent but i don't believe this is him.
I was given 2 war medals also the Victory Medal and British War medal ....nim not sure if these belong to Harry Burt or Harry's father George.
Unfortunately i statred this tree with my father who has since passed away so very little info on Harry (Harry died when my father was a child).

Hi, on the medals are there names and numbers on the outer edge? The number would be a service number and we may, if lucky, pick him up on the WW1 service or pension records. Sometimes these gave wife and children's names.
I'll keep looking for you. :-D

Unfortunately I can't see anything relating to Bensham Manor Road.
At least, like you say, the medals are sorted now, maybe something for you to look into though at a later date?
Was your Nan, Stella's family from the Croydon area? What was her fathers occupation? Just wondering if there could be work links there.

I think the George found in 1911 is Harry's father with his new wife. I traced him with his son and I think the death would be correct, however I think that George and his wife Cecilia may have separated as she died later than George but by 1940 she isn't living with him or her son Sidney.
Your Grandfather is proving difficult, can't find him on the 1911 census, he was most likely to have been in WW1, sadly 70% of WW1 records were burnt in WW2 when they were bombed.
I think the next way forward is to get the electoral role checked for Bensham Manor Road in 1945 and see who is living there, with any luck you may find more answers?
Sometimes people didn't want to be found, sometimes wrong information was added to census, and sadly sometimes people just didn't know who they were.
I find it odd how George jnr and Isabel are with their grandmother Allen, how Albert is with his father and stepmother and yet Harry is nowhere to be seen.
Have to go out for a while, I'll keep fighting about when I come back. :-D :-D

There's also info that conflicts with that 1941 death and the 1932 (sorry!)
It's just that there's this birth:
England & Wales, Birth Index, 1916-2005 Name: Phyllis E Burt Mother's Maiden Surname: Watts <<< Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Registration District: Hammersmith Inferred County: London Volume Number: 1a Page Number: 288
and then later on several ERs
London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965 Name: Evelyn B Burt Year: 1953 County or Borough: Harrow Ward or Division/Constituency: Harrow East Street Address: 5 Albany House Reference Number: MR/PER/C/0897
Living with a Phyllis E Burt (unless they're sisters?)
