I guess thats the same story as the Newcastle Journal. Jessie died between Oct and Dec 1892 so not sure about the other baby - the death certificate didn't arrive this morning.. Jessie's mothers maiden name was McDonald so it is possible. Forgot to put in the timeline that Joseph Berg died in 1889 in South Shields.

CHANGED NATIONALITY. German Sailed Into British Ports as a Belgian. The plausible excuses of John Berg a German ship's steward residing at Leith, for his deception in posing a Belgian were not accepted by the South Shields Magistrates, before whom appeared on remand, and he was sent to prison for three months. Entering a plea of guilty, his solicitor stated that in 1908, when engaged on ships trading to Germany, Berg, advice given to him, changed his nationality in order to avoid trouble with the German authorities. As he was man getting on years, he thought that if he was interned it would be difficult matter for him to secure work after the interment was over, and that was his explanation for being in his present false position. Berg had been remanded last week on the charge of having, as an alien enemy, entered prohibited area without permission on November 22, and also with having failed to give correct particulars as his nationality when registering on the same date. Inquiries made in the meantime showed that lie had registered himself as Belgian various British ports which he had entered on his ship, and had described himself as a native of Antwerp. Later admitted that he had served for two and a half years in the German Army, first as a private and afterwards in the pay office, and he further confessed that he was born at Heinersdorf, near Breslau. also stated in explanation of his having a Belgian passport that he did not tell the Belgian Consul the truth.

I think I've found Cecilia in the 1901 census, under the name 'Nevison' - Nevison was the married name of Jessies sister, and they also lived in/near Newcastle.

John did not have 'deceased' against his name, like Jessie did for her father on her marriage certificate to John. This is the John Berg's timeline so far 1851: Birth possibly in Heinersdorf, near Breslaw Poland (formerly part of Germany), father Joseph Berg. 1881: Story in Shields Gazette on board the New York Liner Otranto 1884: Proprietor of Cocoa Rooms, South Shields, Durham, England. Residence 41 West Holborn St, South Shields. Married Jessie Forsyth from Aberdeenshire 1885:Merchant. Birth of son John. Lives in South Shields. 1886:Story in South Shields Gazette.Refreshment House keeper. Death of son John. Lives in South Shields. 1888:Steward in Steamship. Birth of daughter Cecilia. Lives in South Shields. 1889: Johns father died in South Shields 1891:Wife Jessie died. 1915:Story in Newcastle Journal. Steward in Steamship. Lives at 64 Baltic Street, Leith, Edinburgh 1919: Marriage of Cecilia to Herbert Beckett. Ships Steward.
There may be 2 other possible children, all died within 3 years of birth. The last birth may have been the cause of Jessie's death. I'm still waiting for the birth certificate.
