Just a quickie then must get to work!

Just found Peter Lodge's 1952 probate, admin was to Reginald Lodge, engineer. I'm guessing Reginald changed his name legally for inheritance purposes.

Catherine,

I don't need to buy Ada Alice Annie Linge's birth certificate because I've rung the Bishop Auckland Registrar (County Durham). She was really helpful.

Although she is not allowed to give me information from the certificate, she was able to answer 'yes' or 'no' when I gave her the names of Annie's (A A A Linge) parents - she then confirmed that William and Eliza Linge (nee Woodly) were indeed Annie's parents.

I tried this with the Essex Registrar (only because I live nowhere near and there were a lot of Linge births there) but I got nowhere as she said I would have to buy each individual certificate.

I've appreciated the help I've had with Annie, thank you.

I have another Linge puzzle, I'm afraid.

In 1881 in Essex, the two brothers John and William have girls living with them - William with Annie (whom I believe is Ada Alice Annie born Staindrop, Co Durham) and John who has Alice (a year different in age but whom I thought was Ada Alice Annie who was living between the two brothers, her mother having died).

Annie married Elijah Saville/aka Saveall and they are mentioned above.

However, I have found an Alice Linge marriage in Kent to Albert John Channon in 1898 - discovered when I was checking the 1911 Census for Alfred Linge b c1873 in Essex. In 1911 Alfred is listed as the stepbrother of Alice and the three of them are living in Fulham.

Kent was where Sarah Linge married (John and Sarah's daughter) and lived afterwards at Sheerness, Sheppey.

My dilemma is - who is Alice? The only other Alice Linge I can find born in County Durham was at Gateshead. John, wife Sarah and children lived in the Bishop Auckland area so any birth would have been registered in the Auckland District or Teesdale/Darlington. I am now puzzled and wonder whether I've got two girls with the Christian name Alice - and did John and Sarah indeed have a daughter called Alice - but registered for some reason at Gateshead, Co Durham.

I am completely flummoxed now and wonder whether anyone can help me at all, please?

I have just been checking through my earlier queries and realised that I never posted an update on this thread.

I bought a copy of the birth certificate for Alice Linge born in the Gateshead District of County Durham. Alice was indeed the daughter of John and Sarah Linge (b Sarah Ann Wallis). Alice was born at Dunston, near Gateshead in 1874. I now know that the family must have first moved to Tyneside from Essex before moving to rural County Durham.

Alice is my great-aunt and she died in Kent.

Thank you everyone for your help.
