Hi Guys, think I'm having a senile moment and cant seem to trace Agnes Watson born Glasgow 1870 to Alexander Watson and Janet ? I think its Lee but cant find a marriage for Alexander Watson and Janet ? Their daughter Agnes Watson married a William McCamley or McCamlie in 1888 Glasgow and had a son David born 1888 but I cant seem to find him?? My main concern is Agnes Watsons parents Alexander and Janet? There doesn't appear to be a birth for Agnes Watson which makes me wonder if she was either illegitimate or born elsewhere?? Any ideas? :-S |

Be flexible in your thinking about the mother's first name.......Jean, Jane, Janet and Jennie/Jenny were all interchangeable in Scotland. |

Do you have info about whether the son lived - and married...........have you considered that he died in infancy? |

The 1871 census posted at 10;06 sounds promising, the only thing throwing me is the occupation of Alexander I have him down on daughters marriage cert as "machine factory labourer" but that doesn't mean anything does it?? I will look for the births of the other children listed, and try finding a marriage date for Alexander and Janet.. Thanks :-D |

Agnes's marriage cert will give you her mother's name. |

The odds are that David was born a Watson................based on the dates you quote |

There is only one marriage on scotlandspeople for an Alexander Watson to a Janet in Lanarkshire between 1861 and 1865. Have you checked it to see what the brides surname was? |

Just about to Potty, I think I may have found her parents on the 1851 and 1861 census, 1851 says Samuel Lee born 1796 Ireland and Mrs Samuel Lee 1792 Glasgow. Which lists Jean born 1836 and Margaret c1844 who could be the one listed on the 1871 with Agnes Watson as "boarder" Samuel is listed on the 1861 census this time wife is named Charlotte Lee. Since the names Samuel and Charlotte appear in the family's name I am guessing this is Janet or Jean Lee's parents... |
