Sorry Jude I forgot to mention my deepest Sympathy for your loss.
Iwould like to mention What I have found helpful is when the site in which info has been found is put on the post it has helped me look around save me keep bothering you all when there are lots more searchers also needing your help.
Please don't abandon me just yet though lol I'm not even approaching getting there just yet.
I have been looking to see if Samuel and Ida had children but can only find them on the 1940 census also there is a Samuel that was traveling back and too as staff on the passenger boats same birth year is there a way to find out if this could be him? In the info that Amanda very kindly sent my it states he was a fireman but they would has fireman on the boats as well. Ebbie xx

Hi Jude, I feel exactly that! I feel I have gained so many kind friends and this site is full surprises and stories happy and sad, but the support in ones searches is wonderful as when you start out you immediately feel lost and lonely then you get a question appear and away you go and with my search it has been nothing more than inspiring, fascinating, fulfilling and overwhelming.
I sit and watch long lost families, surprise surprise and when Cilla done it lol I sit there crying my eyes out my family say why do you watch something that upsets you so much, i will cry with the sad part of the story but then you cry with the happy ending which is feeling a small part of the way they must be feeling.
This site is the same just without the pictures. And there are a lot more presenters finding theses that got lost or not heard of over the years.

I just want to say...
I spent half an hour reading this last night...when I couldn't sleep
1. Ebbie even though your avatar was male I never saw you as anything such :-0
2. Have hated everything about GR since they changed the tree etc
3. And then there was the divisive charging..
And I like many others thought about nor renewing...but I did because
1. Even though I don't maintain my tree on here I 2. Like the camaraderie of the boards 3. I want to give something back
And this heart-warming story brought everything into perspective......it's now nearly a year since my mum died...I found on this forum a caring concerning family who I will never know in my lifetime but who I profess to call friends....

Thank you Amanda you say it only cost you £3.75 may not be a lot of money to spend for a Friend of yours but a lot of money for someone you never met! You are so kind!! I hope we can all continue to find more stories together, it's been fabulous to have so much kindness and support has meant so much and of course I would never have found ANYTHING if it wasn't for all of you!
Yes Gins After 99 years thanks to you all my Father knows more about his father now than he ever has done he knew nothing! The copy of the marriage certificate meant so much to him and just having the copies of info I know it's making him feel more complete if you know what I mean.
This has been and is a very special journey for him and myself .
Thank you Marie another one i can add to the collection.
Ebbie xx

Hi Ebbie,
You are very very welcome.
It only cost me £3.75 in total, the pages are always like that, so please do not worry about the cost.
The pleasure I have had from being to help you and your Father is priceless.
Do let us know how you get on with Samuel in the US as we would all love to know if there is more to this story yet to be discovered.
Kind regards Amanda x

Where do I start. , I'm going to start with thanking Amanda again the size and weight of the envelope also the paper (huge) how did you manage to print it? Amanda this must have cost you a small fortune, what a lovely lady you are!! Thank you so so very much xxxx
I am so lucky to have this info which shows me where my Father gets his strength from, he has always told me how they helped their mother because she had three jobs and would leave the house at dark and return at dark to keep food in their bellies and clothes on their backs. Such a sad story that she fought for his return, I can only think that he had told her to return to England and he would follow. What an amazing woman and so young as well. I remember her she always looked stern made lovely cakes and bread, never allowed to leave any waste!! My father can't believe that he has this info in front of him. He keeps saying where you getting all this bless him.
A big huge thank you from both of us, it's fascinating it really is.

Hi Ebbie
It's a 'mare' trying to get BMD certificates from the US. Each death record is held by the State in which the person died, married or was born
Here is a link to NY official BMD, with some advice and guidence
http://www.health.ny.gov/vital_records/death.htm
You could try emailing them for advice or sub to the site that I posted earlier.
Certificates are $30, which equates to about £18
