There's not necessarily any reason for any of the details to tie up with Folkestone - she may just have gone there to give birth to her illegitimate daughter - maybe somewhere she wasn't known.

Re Ethel -
There was time for her to have been promoted from laundrymaid to chambermaid between 1901 and 1904 when she became pregnant (one of those male servants at Blenheim, maybe?).

Or maybe she had to leave Blenheim, and got another position.
