Find Ancestors

If you feel you are going round in circles with your research, you can always contact the relevant Family History Society. I had an ancestor from Oxford who I could not trace a birth or marriage for, yet he was born in the area?? The FHS's have CD's for various districts listing Baptisms, Births and Deaths that can be purchased. I found out that my ancestor had changed his name in 1824, so this is why I came to a 'brick wall'. Fortunately, one of the researcher at the FHS for Oxford, through thorough research managed to crack it! i was only charged a small fee for this.

There are indeed many good and helpful people on here like yourself that I've already come across in just two days of joining the site. And to be honest, reading through some other posts, I see I am not alone in feeling disappointed/ annoyed etc. by comments made by a "particular person" whom both they and I have come into contact with on, their journeys for information!

I am so sorry that this hasn't been a good experience for you Angie. Most of the "helpers" on here do so as a hobby and to share their experience. Many of us have had tricky bits to research in our family history and therefore know the delight and excitement when, sometimes after years of trying, we make a breakthrough.

Personally, I don't look for thanks. I am just pleased when the original poster comes back to the thread and acknowledges that they have read the information posted and let us know if we are on the right track.

Can we assume then that you have found Arthur Henry's death please?

Yep, have got my grandparents marriage certificate. Also mentioned in an earlier post that Arthur's father was called Albert and he was a collier. Arthur's address at the time he was married was Blackfriars Road, Oxford.

As Glitterbaby has said, if you don't have it you NEED your grandparent's marriage certificate to find the name and occupation of Arthur's father. Also it would be useful to know Arthur's address at the time he married.

I can only suggest you purchase copies of the above death certs.

They will give you information as to who registered the death and exactly where the death took place.

From that information you might be able to trace the person (Or family members of that person) who registered the death.

I would probably purchase one cert at a time and hope that the first you purchase is the correct one.

Having said that......it might not be either of them!

Sure you mean electoral registers and not census

I've really no idea at all about where/ when he died, so both could be possibilities. The only family "story" I have heard about his disappearance is that he left one day after an argument with his wife, never to be seen again. He was on the census of 1940, but not after that in the family home.

What about the 2 death entries i posted.
