There is a 100 year closure on the census so the 1961 census won't be released until January 2062 or the 1951 census released in January 2052. There wasn't a census taken in 1941 during the war and the 1931 census was destroyed during the 2nd world war. |

Forgot to say, I was wondering about later census that have not been published yet say 1964 era, so not sure how to find this out without sending for the DC. |

Thanks, I am seriously wondering if re: a Mary Lee who died aged 97 in Haslemere SW could be of importance. I know my 2 x Great Grandmother was very old when she died, she lived in Haslemere during the 40's but could've lived to well into her 90's. She was born in 1865. I may have to get the DC to see. |

Hi. I have a new lead but no access to census or death records. So can I ask for more help please? I now know my Great Great Grandmother may have lived in Haslemere during the war, (moved there for safety?) Her son Bertam G Butlin of Brigend Hammer, Haslemere or Brigend, Hammer Lane Haslemere was driving in a motor car when he was in a collision with a cyclist reported in the Portsmouth Evening News 25 Nov 1940. He may have been visiting his mother or brought his mother to Portsmouth to visit other members of her family. |

There was a St Mary's House in Nightingale road, shows up in google search 1880s, but I would suggest trying the local library/archives for info on what it was used for in the 1940s? |

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. Can any one help please, I am trying to find out if St Mary's Ho.(not sure if Ho. is short for Home/House/ Hotel in Nightingale Road, Southsea, Hants was a nursing home in the 1940's. I am still looking for the DOD & place of my Great Great Grandmother & a few weeks ago came across a Mrs Mary Lee residing at St Mary's Ho. Nightingale Road, Southsea in the early 1940's. As she was born in 1865 she would be about 80's at the time. I do know one of her last photo's was of her in a wheelchair on a street in Portsmouth. |

Thanks for that. I've done some checks on ancestry & the family is a different one at the Ealing address. Confusingly the name of the informant on the DC is A J Lee but I can't see an A J Lee listed on any of the Census you sent. could be cousins or distant cousins of the Portsmouth relatives though. I am going to see if I can get intouch with the Portsmouth cemeteries to see if they have a Head stone for Mary A Lee to see what is on that. My guess is Mary anne Lee is buried at Kingston or Milton Cemetery. |

Thanks for your help, I did actually look into that Mary A Lee & I still have the certificate. Everything on it fits including her deceased husband William John Lee listed as a Pensioned Marine Royal Marine except my great Grandmother's middle name, the middle name (could have been an error) & the informant fits too A J Lee (son) but he has a Gosport address & looking at his profile on my tree I can't place him in Gosport at all but of course Gosport is a naval area. On the DC the address given for Mary Ann Lee is 14 ~Woodrow Close, Perivale, Ealing U.D. which is not a Portsmouth address but a London one. I can't see why Mary J Lee would go & live in Ealing for a while unless she had a relative living there & just happened to be in Gosport Portsmouth area at the time of her death. |

Hi, certificates unfortunately did not tell me anything other than not my Great Grandmother. But I have come across a Mary J Street on the freeBMD who died in Portsmouth 1940 Mar Q. Now her mother my Great Great Grandmother 's maiden name was Leah Street before she married Henry Ubsdell & who died in Portsea 1901. Do you think it possible Mary Jane Lee used her mother's maiden name before she died? |
