Thank you everyone for your replies it has helped me a lot. I would think that one of the fathers could be the brother of Mary Ann Riley married to John Pearce. Now the crunch is finding his first wife who would have been mother to Christian Augustus Pearce b 1819 and John Pearce b c1821. I will make a note of all information you have all given me.

I am sure it was my John Pearce that married Mary Barton, but been told she married John Meriscoe Pearce. Until I can prove otherwise I have to leave it .

I mean the one that has John Meriscoe Pearce in their tree.

John Meriscoe Pearce was a Solicitor.

Is it my tree in muddle?

I have just checked the tree out on Ancestry and i think the tree owner has gotten into a bit of a muddle!

ArgyllGran have you looked at the 1901 census there are a few William Butler it also gives occupation. My John Pearce died in Watford.
