Find Ancestors

My great grandmother was born on 5th February 1874 but I have never been able to find her birth certificate. Her mother Mary Wilson appears to have come from Aylesbury or Dunstable Area. She married John Blow after Alice's birth and they lived in London. She later had my grandmother Elizabeth Blow in London but somehow she became Alice Maud Wells but there is no record of a marriage. Can anyone help or assist in how I can find more details.

At what stage did Alice supposedly take the name Wells?

Her age on here does not equate to an 1874 birth

Mary could have been Harriet's mother..she certainly wasn't Alice's

Jan's 1861 census shows James as a shoe maker, so it looks like they were Alice's grandparents.

Following all that, I can see the problem with finding a birth registration for Alice. With a Battersea birthplace she should be registered in Wandsworth, but I can't see her. Widening it to Surrey, these are all I can find:

If you look at the 1911 original I think her age is 34 not 31 - which puts her birth at 1876/7 - a bit closer (maybe) to the truth...but her birthplace is Aylesbury...

We need Rosalind to come back and explain where the birth date comes from, and how she tracked back to this family as there is obviously an error along the way to have the wrong generation for the mother.

Mary Ann Wilson is back with husband James by the 1891 census, so probably just a temporary visitor.
