Her birth cert will give you her parent/parents names
Civil Registration event: Birth Name: HILTON, Bertha Shipley Registration district: Gainsborough County: Lincolnshire Year of registration: 1870 Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3 Volume no: 7A
Am guessing she may be Catherine's daughter ;-)

It seems the witness.......Heny Fisher has been entered as the Father and then crossed out.
I can't make out what it reads above in bracketts though.
I will take another look.

Father's name looks to be Henry Fisher (Contracter) crossed out and " Nullius Filias " is noted, which is Latin.
nullius filius (Latinate) A child of unknown parentage; an orphan. (law) The son of no one; a bastard.

Very hard to read the cert jacky .
Looks like Henry Fisher crossed out and Nullins Hlia at the top of his name . I did notice Bertha's name also had Fisher as last name crossed out..
Witts Henry Fisher Calhourne Fisher..that one is questionable too.

Interesting to note that Bertha has written her name as Bertha Shipley Hilton Fisher but the Fisher has been crossed out.
Apparantly when Nullius Filius is noted on a document it is to state that the person has no legal rights as far as a heritage is concerned. As she notes her name as Fisher, it may be that her father actually was Henry Fisher but that he wanted it to be confirmed that she had no legal rights to his estate?
(just a theory)

I would have thought that Shipley in her name was a clue to her father's identity.............

As Henry's occupation is noted as Contractor, I was wondering if this could be him :-

Here you are:-
England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index, 1837-1915 about Henry Fisher Name: Henry Fisher Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1882 Registration District: Manchester Inferred County: Lancashire Volume Number: 8d Page Number: 413 Records on Page: Name Henry Fisher Catharine Hilton Mary Jane O'Connor Charles Radcliffe
Looks like Catherine Fisher (Henry Fisher's wife in census) is Catharine Hilton.
Could be that Bertha was Catherine's illegitimate daughter and Henry Fisher was her step-father and he wanted it to be known that Bertha had no legal rights to his estate?
