My mum and her dad were not close. Now my mum has passed away, I want to trace my Grandfather's family tree. All the information I have is that my Grandfather was called James Owen and he was a wholesale fruit merchant. This is the information on my Mum's marriage certificate. How can I find out more information? My Mum was born in Ermston,Lancashire.

I think that will be 'Urmston' ? Lancashire.

If you find your mum's birth record then obtaining a copy of her birth certificate will tell you more about her father.

Also, if she wasn't close to her father, what about her mother? can you tell us anything about her - it might help us track your grandfather.

This, I believe, would be Alex's Grandparents wedding but this makes her grandfather a William (not a James), and her great grandfather a James? - Or have I got confused somewhere?
