AnnCardiff - thanks I am related to Dora who died in the last couple of years, some of the family tales were incorrect.

Argylgran there was a Lorenco Louis Bellatti who married a Sarah Stokes but they are too old b 1785/1795 maybe grandparents but there was a Louis bellatti who married charlotte fisher but she appears too younf and on all the census returns they appear childless!

I have not heard of these people. I know from the Musters of the 89th Louis was in India from 1858 until his death in 1865. I don't know where he is buried. and apart form his marriage certificate saying his father was Louis Ballati I cannot trace his ancestors.

thanks argylgran - it is the the three brothers from Como who we think Louis may nbe realted to but cannot prove. I have had contact with the author of the one name study and he has drawn the same blank with Louis's parents. He is trying to link Louis with Lorenco Louis Bellatti a clockmaker/engraver

While trawling Ancestry, I see there are several member trees mentioning Bellatti's in Como, Italy.
No sign of Louis, but maybe his family originated in that area?

I had hopes of this one for his father- maybe those ornate toilets could have counted as engraving?! - but it's not him.

Thanks Catherine - Richard A Ballash is my great grandfather Richard Arthur Ballatti and the name is incorrectly spelt on the census. Eliza Jane married James Gallimore 17/5/1869 Louis died 20/2/1865.
