Hi, have been able to trace my great grandfather Joseph Morris in 1911 census but unable to find any other information. He was born in 1862 |

As he didn't marry the mother of his child, you can't find out his father's name |

Thanks for taking the time, that makes a lot of sense as I cannot even trace him back to 1901 census when he would have been 39 |

When a man is missing from 1901 census I always think of the Boer War? |

Hi Catherine, yes, Josephine Morris Hayes was my grandmother, she is as far as I can get on her side due to her father supposedly being unknown but my auntie tells me he was called Joseph Morris but never married? |

As there is no record of his 'daughter' living with him, you are going to be unable to prove who her father was...........unless he is named on her birth cert, and even then.................. |

Think I have met a dead end, all I know about the daughter is that she was looked after by a Governess |

Because my mum told me that her mother was illegitimate but knew that her father was a cheshire farmer called Joseph who lived at Moss Side Farm, the 1911 census confirmed this |

From the census records it looks as though Josephine was looked after by her Great Aunt, who never married and was from Cumberland. |

No I haven`t but will order one, might be worth it, otherwise feel a visit to Daresbury cemetery coming on! was told that the person who looked after Josephine was employed by her father to look after her, how true that is I don`t know |
