This couple born 1839 and 1841 lived in Belfast and Dundalk. They had several children including William Usher Mccleery who was my great grandfather. I am looking for info on any of the others especially their daughter Polly.

Hi Marie I already have their marriage but they lived in Belfast and Nannie died in Dundalk where her family lived. It is the children I am stumped on. Hugh I think went to New York but can't find Polly, Ben or Frank.

Hi Jackie, we post whatever info we find to try to get a profile of the people we're looking for. In this case it's helpful to know they were in Dublin - some of the children may have been born there so we would use that for looking for births - you didn't mention all of the names in your opening post.
Seeing as you do know some names, do you have birth years and birthplaces for all of them?

Hi Marie John Mccleery was a Belfast man I think and was part of a cloth making business. Nannie came from Dundalk and I know she was there in1885 as her mother, Frances Alicia Usher ( 1809-1885) died at her home. The children William Usher Mccleery 1871-1917 was born in Belfast on the Shankhill Road. I know quite a lot about him as he was my Great Great Grandfather. Hugh 1882 went to New York. Not sure where he was born. George 1877, know nothing else about him. Frank nothing known John jr nothing known Polly nothing known I know they married in Dublin but absolutely no idea why. I have just ordered Nannie Usher's death certificate to see if I can glean any more info. No idea when John died as the only deathI can find is for a William John. Thanks for all your help.

I was wondering about this one too.......could it be a transcription error on the mothers first name and an error on the surname spelling?

France's DOB I got from the death registration. I also thought I had found Frank when I found Francis but the wrong parents. George Smallman Mccleery could well be right.

I think George was born 4 April 1876 in Antrim. Any sign of Polly. Not sure what Polly is short for. Tried Pauline and Mary as typical Irish names but they were not Catholic.

I would guess that Nannie and John named the child after her grandmother...quite common place back then

My apologies if this is a duplicate post, but I see no evidence that my first post actually appeared.
George Smallman McCleary is in fact the son of John McCleary and Nannie Usher, according to his SS-5 application, and was born in Dundalk. John, George, George's wife Esther (sometimes Hester) Elliot McCleary, and their infant daughter Violet appear together in the 1911 census in Belfast. George's son Ronald is with his grandfather David Elliott in Donegal. I have been unsuccessful at finding George or John in 1901.
George's daughter Rae believes that at least one of the siblings ended up in Liverpool, but since she was only 4 when the family emigrated to the U.S. (1928), she doesn't know much about the remainder of the family. George and his family do appear in the 1940 census in Massachusetts but with most of the children's names slightly off. (Rae for instance is given as son Raymond).
I would be very interested in what Nannie's death certificate says. I found her obit in a New York paper but that did not provide much useful information other than her address in Dundalk and that she died there as a result of a street accident.
