Hi,
Trying to find more information on Eli Jacobs born England and wife Elizabeth born Canada....Found Living in Canada 1871 1881 ......There daughter Fanny moved to england betwen 1881 and 1891..I cant find any travel records for her.

Wondering if someone could please have a look 1891 census Canada or any other details from other census .I do not have full membership of Ancestry so not sure what details are given on these.

The family are in Canada 1871 & 1881
Eli Jacobs born 1833 England
Elizabeth Jacobs born 1840 Canada
William born 1862 Nova scotia
Fanny b 1869 '' ""
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eli Jacobs
Canada Census, 1891
birth: 1833 England
residence: 1891
St Stephen, Charlotte, New Brunswick, Canada
...............................................................................................................................
I think Eli could have been born in Wiltshire parents William Jacobs and Harriet..he appears on 1841 census and 1851..then seems to vanish from the uk.

There is also Elijah Jacobs that migrated to Canada in 1883. whom I think could be Eli's brother.

Any help on this would be great.
Thanking you
Alison

Hi Alison,
I should be able to send you the 1891 census.

I can't seem to locate them in the 1901 census or Fanny's arrival details.

Gins,

I sent the 1891 census to Alison by pm and asked how she knew that Fanny returned
to England.

Apparently Fanny married 1894 to a Frank Mould in Wiltshire.

Gee

Gee Report 17 Mar 2013 09:57

Gai

I saw that marriage but I also saw a US census with Fanny Farnsworth b CA and husband Frank, father Eli Jacobs

There are also shipping records with an Elizabeth Jacobs, listed as blind and going to stay with Fanny Farnsworth in the US

Maybe it's just coincidence?

Gins, that's an interesting development about Fanny.

I have searched all the Incoming into the UK and can't find any record of Fanny
at all.

Hopefully Alison can give us some concrete proof about the marriage she believes to be the Fanny she is looking for.

Gins,

I have sent Alison a pm telling her about the information you have found.

I believe she is helping a friend with her research so hopefully she comes
back to the thread soon.

This must be the 1911 for the Fanny referred to who married Frank Mould:

MOULD, Frank Head Married7 years M 42 1869 Wood Cutter Wiltshire
MOULD, Fany Wife Married F 45 1866 Novatiotia Resident
MOULD, Frances Stephen George Son Single M 16 1895 Wood Cutter Lankhall Batts Somerset
MOULD, Stephen Son M 14 1897 Coal Miner Hewer Lankhall Batts Somerset
MOULD, John Son M 14 1897 Coal Miner Hewer Lankhall Batts Somerset

Registration District: Bath
Sub District: Twerton
Enumeration District: 13
Parish: Englishcombe

Address: 1 Rose Cottages Odd Down Bath County: Somersetshire

It begs the question whether Alison is working back from the Moulds or forwards from the Jacobs.

The birthdate (if accurate) is 3 years older than Fanny Jacobs born to Eli .

Gai/MC

Ive tried reading that marriage record but it's such a poor quality image.

I wanted to check who the witnesess's were. Can you have a look and see if you can make anything out please

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Mar 2013 10:55

Gins, sadly it doesn't give any witnesses, just that the ceremony was performed by Allen G Hall, pastor of ME (Methodist?) church at so Framingham (image comes up quite clear on my screen?)

EDIT: I notice the documents on Ancestry and Familysearch are different versions of the same thing, but have exactly the same info. The Familysearch version on the link above is much clearer to read.

That's a terrible image, how on earth would you even know if there was
a transcription error or not.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Mar 2013 11:09

Gai - does the Familysearch image not work better for you?

There's no doubt the marriage and 1900 US census that Gins found is for Fannie, the daughter of Eli and Elizabeth so it looks like we have two Fannys.

MC - I didn't look at Familysearch only Ancestry.

I can see the image a lot clearer on Familysearch.

Had a look in the newspaper archives to see if there was anything on the 1894 marriage of Frank Mould and Fanny Jacob that might give some background, sadly not.

However, the Frank Mould of the addresses on the 1901 and 1911 was mentioned many times relating to his appearances at the police courts on drink related charges.
