Why do I keep getting ino bother ???
I have the 1911 census for the Field family and I had the inspiration of doing an advanced search for wife and sister but is the wifes name correctly transcribed please?
1911 Census FIELD HENRY M 1870 41 Bradford FIELD IDA ELIZABETH [Sister] F 1869 42 Bradford FIELD AGENAS [Wife] F 1865 46 Bradford FIELD ANNIE F 1894 17 Bradford FIELD MARTIN M 1897 14 Bradford FIELD HARRY M 1900 11 Bradford
cos I've never come across an Agenas before and I can't see a name anything like in previous census (A guess would be Agnes I suppose). I can't see an entry for Ida Elizabeth either - do I need new glasses ??
Many thanks, Frances

But the 1911 census says they've been married 18 years, 5 children born, 3 still living.

It says 5 born 3 living who are with them in 1911 2 died, but did they have John Field born 16/7/1901 privately baptised 6/8/1901 by Henry and Mary address 13 George Court (Same as on 1901 census)
There is a tree on Anccestry with John son of Henry and Mary,he married Elizabeth landers.
1911 26,Eastbrook Lane Brd J H Rodley 1863 Dyer sarah A Rodley Joseph Field brother in law single John Field nephew 1902.
Maryb
Given that the witness on henry Field's marriage 1894 was a S K Rodley I would think this is connected to the same family.

Thank you Mary. I have been looking in Mundia at the Ancestry tree you refer to, I expect, and there are cousins Martin 1831 and Martin 1832 to add to the confusion so I am going to have to spend time whittling at that one to make sure the right one gets the right childen. May be I am a bit cautious but I never take anybody else's tree as gospel without doing my own checks!

OK I have spent the time and now have :-
1861 Field Martin 1833 Bradford Bradford, Bradford East End Field Ann 1839 ... Bradford, Bradford East End
Marriages Mar 1859 Dickinson Ann Bradford Yk 9b 97
Field Martin Bradford Yk 9b 97
1861 Field Martin 1832 ... Bradford, Bradford West End Field Emma Jane 1834 Bradford Bradford, Bradford West End
Marriages Dec 1859 Field Martin Bradford Yk 9b 297
Taylor Emma Jane Bradford Yk 9b 297
The March 1859 has not been properly transcribed but the original images are quite clear to me as 9b 97.
Can anybody see any other marriage records that corroborate my findings please, before I email FreeBMD so that they can correct their records.

West Yorkshire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1935
Name: Martin Field - labourer Birth Year: abt 1836 Age: 23 Marriage or Bann Date: 26 Feb 1859 Parish: Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral) Father's Name: Joseph Field - a Comber Spouse's Name: Ann Dickinson (22) a weaver Spouse's Father's Name: John Dickinson - a joiner
Bride and groom both of Bradford and neither married before.
Witnesses: William Holmes and Ephraim Smith
EDIT: I don't think this is the right couple as the ages and occupations don't tally with the correct Martin and Ann on the census.
(Can't find a corresponding record for the later marriage)

On the original of the 1911 for Henry and Agnes the 18 years married was written next to HENRY's name (not Agnes'), as was the 5 children born, 2 died. That has been crossed out and written in a different hand (probably the enumerator) against Agnes' name.
I believe this is incorrect, Agnes and Mary are obviously two different people as evidenced by their ages and birthplaces.
This is quite possibly the death of his first wife:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index, 1837-1915
Name: Mary Field Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871 Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1903 Age at Death: 32 Registration district: Bradford Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding Volume: 9b Page: 22

This appears to be Henry's parents in 1861 - I don't think they're the same couple as that 1859 marriage as the ages and occupations are wrong:
FIELD, Martin Head Married M 28 1833 Fitter Of Iron Work Mould Bradford, Yorkshire FIELD, Ann Wife Married F 22 1839 Domestic Work..., Cumberland FIELD, Thomas Son M 3 1858 Bradford, Yorkshire FIELD, Samuel Son M 1 1860 Bradford, Yorkshire
Piece: 3316 Folio: 95 Page: 13 Registration District: Bradford Civil Parish: Bradford Municipal Borough: Bradford
Address: 6, George Court, Bradford County: Yorkshire (West riding)
EDIT: I've also found the Martin and Emma Jane who also married 1859 - he's a letter press printer from Worcestershire so doesn't match with the father's details from Henry's marriage.

This is the John's marriage who was born 1901. John Field married Elizabeth landers 2/5/1925 his address same as 1911 census 26,Eastbrook lane father Harry Field Wool Comber witness Lily Rodley daughter of John h Rodley and Sarah Ann Rodley nee Field.
So it looks more likely that John was the son of Henry and Mary Field.

What I can't get my head around is if on the 1911 Henry Field said they'd had 5 children, 2 had died and the three alive were listed on the census with him, is how John b 1902 fits in?
EDIT: But as Mary says there is this
West Yorkshire, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1910
Name: John Field Birth Date: 22 Jul 1901 - born 13 George Court Parish: Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral) Baptism Date: 21 Jan 1903 Father's Name: Henry Field - street car cleaner Mother's name: Mary Field - formerly Jennings
Baptised the same day was William, born 1 January 1903 at 1 George Court- there's nothing to indicate on this particular record that it was private. EDIT: I see there was also a baptism for John at St Lukes 6 August 1901.

Hi Marie Celeste and Mary. Thank you for all your posts while I have been out, having a Mother's Day noche a week late! Perhaps i should go out more often if this the extra reward. Now I will need another hour to read through it all several times to get the little grey cells to assimilate it all.
