As a new member how do I get the information on my grandparents when I do not know their names, other than Grandfather was England, and I do not know their date of birth or date of death. Looking up England under the London area without any more refined details, brings up hundreds of them. I have looked my parents marriage certificate up thinking this might give me a lead, but sadly it does not. My father had two brothers and two sisters, but not knowing dates of births or deaths, and in the case of the boys, not really sure of their Christian names, other than I think they were Harold and Harry. Both were older than my father, and to my knowledge were killed during the last war years. Can a kind soul give me some guide lines? Sheba |

As Dea states: Start with what you know. |

You say you're not sure of the forenames of your father's brothers, does that mean you know the forenames of his sisters? If so, what were they? |

Hello, I now have my parents marriage certificate. Horace Arthur England married Irene Ada Squires at Gt Clacton Parish Church in the county of Essex on 19.12.1937. Fathers name for Dad was given as Henry England and Fathers name for Mum was Richard Squires. Dad was aged 22 yrs. and Mum was 25 yrs.The addresses for both sets of parents have been recorded on the certificate as living in the Essex area. I know both Mum & Dad were born in London. |

This is the only Horace A. England birth I can see on Freebmd - you can find it easily here yourself: |

Do you have an occupation for Henry England, and what are the addresses? Names of witnesses too please. |

Must be Irene? If we had known the names were so unusual might not have advised the marriage cert - though it always pays to be sure. |

I would think these are likely to be her parents, though you can't tell before 1912 who married who. What was the wife's name for the Richard you found? |

Does any of this match with Richard on the marriage cert? Very distinctive occupation. |

brummiejan - so sorry I have mistakenly sent your reply as a report to the Genes team. I do apologise, you must think I am a dim wit. I don't know whether you can retrieve it, but I will re type it here: Henry England's residence was Green Lands, Colchester Road, Thorpe-le-Soken and occupation Builder. Richard Squires residence was Clissold, Main Road, Holland-on-Sea, and occupation Retired. Both addresses are in Essex. The two witnesses were L.W. Self and R. Squires. I do appreciate all your help, it all seems so easy when you come back so quickly with answers. Thanks to everyone. Sheba. |
