Yea have been able to do that side not to bad Found her husband with his mother again no dad on the 1911 census with brothers and sisters and on his marriage cert had his mother as afterwards married so was able to find that marriage and get the parents for both people and the mother is listed with her grandparents and her kids and further back with her parents so cant do much more on that one his birth cert and that of his siblings just has the mother listed so cant see how will get anywhere with that but i have got a good wee tree going for mine and my husbands side going now thanks again :-) |

If she spoke Gaelic, she was most likely from Inverness-shire. Gaelic hasn't been spoken in Galloway (the area that Dalry is in) since about the 1700s. Possibly moved South for work. What was Elizabeth's husband's occupation? Have you traced him back? |

scotlandspeople has only 2 births for an Elizabeth Chisholm in 1906 and 1907 (Elizabeth's birth years, unless she lied about her age on her marriage) and there are 2 with the same age on the 1911. One of those is living with a Margaret in Inverness-shire. For the cost of a few credits you could look at those and then trace Margaret back. |

I know it doesn't fit with the Kirkcudbright bit, but I have just found (in my 1868 gazetteer) that there was/is a village called Dalroy, near Nairn. This is much nearer to places like Thurso, Strathpeffer and Caithness. |

I think you need to look for this family on the 1911 census -all three of the girls should be on that census and two of them, Jessie and Christina should be on the 1901 - the 1911 should give their POB which will help to find them on the 1902 |

Have you actually viewed the marriage certs for all of the marriages or are you going on what others have told you? |

When did Wiliam and Jessie marry? Would we be able to find them on a census? |
