think have got it now 1911 census John 52 & Margaret 46 with children Jessie 1898,Donald 1901,Lizzie 1905,John 1906.
1901 John 43 & Margaret 37 with William 1885, Jessie 1887, Maggie 1889, Mary 1890, Katie 1893, Annie 1895, Jessie 1898, Donald 1901,
1891 (Jessie seems to have been original called Christina ?) John 31 & Margaret 27 with William 1885, Christina 1887, Maggie 1889, Mary 1890,
Am thinking possibly Maggie would be 18 when my Elisabeth was born so seems more possible that Elisabeths (sisters) are in fact her aunties, thanks for all the help.

Hi Bethany, Above will be the family of John Chisholm and Margaret Fraser who married in Klitarlity in 1885
I also identified the same family in both 1891 and in 1901 and did wonder if daughter Margaret was Elizabeth's mother
Have you noticed the anomaly in Christina's age? This was also noted on my earlier post.... born circa 1887 If this is the same girl who married Hugh Clark in Dalry 1930, it means she was around 43 yrs old at the time, not 34yrs. Christina's age is almost 10yrs out and her place of marriage is still about 250miles from her home town in Inverness. It does look like the correct girl,l but i would still keep an open mind. Edit: In addition to the couples named John Chisholm and Margaret Fraser who married in Inverness shire 1883 and 1885, I found this John Chisholm and Maggie Fraser who married in Galashiels, Selkirk 1891 Also John Chisholm and Marjory Fraser married In Inverness 1905

Thanks Anne have had lost of wee bits of info an trying to tie them together. There was mention of 7 sisters for Elisabeth with the names i have had on here and also a (Grace/ Gracie who worked in Dunbar hospital thurso. And a Catherine). Am thinking that these last 2 sister may actually be sisters of Elisabeth and that the other 7 (sisters) are her mothers sisters. Was told some or all of the brothers/uncles emigrated so that would fit. Was told Elisabeth spoke a little Gaelic and her mother was fluent in it, and from Inverness/ Dalry ? so think am hopefully heading in the right direction. :-)

If she spoke Gaelic, she was most likely from Inverness-shire. Gaelic hasn't been spoken in Galloway (the area that Dalry is in) since about the 1700s. Possibly moved South for work. What was Elizabeth's husband's occupation? Have you traced him back?

Bethany, What you may need to do is return to the family on the census returns 1891-1911 and plot the year and places of birth for each child. From memory, the older ones were born in Kitarlity and the younger ones in Kilmorack. Then see if you can use the following to work it out.... you have a job on your hands. To be really certain this really requires a visit to the GRO in Edinburgh/Glasgow or Kilmarnock. There are sooo many possibilities.... These are ALL the female Chisholm births in Kiltarlity between 1885 and 1906
1 1888 CHISHOLM ANNE F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0033 2 1895 CHISHOLM ANNE F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0015 3 1889 CHISHOLM BARBARA MARY F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0026 4 1890 CHISHOLM CATHERINE F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0027 5 1892 CHISHOLM CATHERINE F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0014 6 1886 CHISHOLM CHRISTINA F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0034 7 1896 CHISHOLM CHRISTINA F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0023 8 1894 CHISHOLM ELIZA ANN F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0002 9 1885 CHISHOLM ELIZABETH F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0033 10 1895 CHISHOLM JESSIE TAYLOR F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0023 11 1893 CHISHOLM JOHAN F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0015 12 1888 CHISHOLM MARGARET F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0032 13 1887 CHISHOLM MARGARET ANN F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0030 14 1895 CHISHOLM MARJORY F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0013 15 1890 CHISHOLM MARY F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0010 16 1887 CHISHOLM MARY BETSY F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0043 17 1888 CHISHOLM MARY HELEN F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0030 18 1897 CHISHOLM WILLIAMINA F KILTARLITY /INVERNESS 101/00 0027
Using the same search criteria, these are the females born in Kilmorack
1 1894 CHISHOLM ANN F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0037 2 1904 CHISHOLM ANN ANGUSINA F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0008 3 1893 CHISHOLM CATHERINE F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0025 4 1894 CHISHOLM CATHERINE F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0022 5 1895 CHISHOLM CHRISTINA F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0014 6 1906 CHISHOLM DOLINA F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0032 7 1904 CHISHOLM ELIZABETH F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0012 8 1889 CHISHOLM FLORA MARY F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0036 9 1904 CHISHOLM HELEN F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0006 10 1897 CHISHOLM JESSIE F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0030 11 1889 CHISHOLM MAGDALEN F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0023 12 1889 CHISHOLM MARGARET F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0024 13 1895 CHISHOLM MARGARET F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0024 14 1886 CHISHOLM MARGARET ANN F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0018 15 1899 CHISHOLM MARY F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0034 16 1901 CHISHOLM MARY ANN F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0028 17 1888 CHISHOLM MARY BELL F KILMORACK /INVERNESS 100/00 0023 Notice that there are no children called Grace. Margaret Chisholm Ms Fraser was born in Glenbucket circa 1864. As there is no child called Grace on the 1911 census, your info suggests she may have been born after 1911. The mother would be almost 50yrs old by then?
There is one last thing that you could check.... After a search, I could find only one possible death for the mother, Margaret Chisholm, other name Fraser of the CORRECT age. This woman died in 1939, death registered in Inverness. Does this tally? Was this mother deceased on that 1940 marriage in Dalry?
