Does anyone know if its possible to get a marriage certificate pre 1837? I need to confirm they are the right relatives but I need to see the marriage certificate . The marriage was in 1834 and in Kensington so are there any other archives that hold the info? |

No marriage certs as such (they only started with civil registration in 1837) but some London records are available on line. |

Some of the London ones on Ancestry for 1836 are the same as the ones issued in 1837 but very hit and miss and certainly not for 1834 |

Why not buy Henry's birth cert and see if his mother was Sarah nee Robinson |

Yes I may well do that. I saw Henry Hunter John but I am not convinced its the correct Henry. I am not aware of the Hunter John bit in the history of the family. However there are no other Henry Hammonds registered in Kensington. |

I think this will be the 1843 birth Mike has posted |

So he can't have been born 1843 if baptised in 1842. |

Is Henry (1843) your direct line? |
|||
|
ErikaH | Report | 5 Feb 2013 23:51 |
The woman who died in 1843 should appear on 1841 census, and her death cert should say whose wife she was |

According to a tree, the mother for that christening was Sarah Smith |

Thank you all so far. There is something very strange as there is just nothing concrete to work from.. I have all the info for my Henry who married Harriett Seal and then all the way down to my grandmother but absolutely and frustratingly nothing before his bith. No parents and no siblings. Only presumptions |

This maybe William and Sarah from 1841 |

What are the details about his father on the marriage cert? |
