Just to add to info already found:-

Apart from the births Spokes/Ewing that I posted on previous page and the birth that E1916 found:-
Name: Florence Eileen Spokes
Registration district: Inishowen
BIRTHS registration quarter and year: Apr - Jun 1924

.............I have also come across the following which may also be another sibling:-

name: Charles Walter Spokes
registration district: Inishowen
event type: BIRTHS
registration quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1927
estimated birth year:
age (at death):
mother's maiden name:
film number: 101230
volume number: 2
page number: 51
digital folder number: 4195645
image number: 00380
............unfortunately no mmn given but coudl very well a brother.

Catherine Report 27 Nov 2012 22:42

How sure is your source that George Spokes did indeed marry Evelyn Ewing?

If that is the case then the George Spokes in the newspaper report will not be your man, as his wife was noted as being Mary :-(

I would still be very interested to know what Raymond gives as his father's name and occupation on his marriage certificate!

Catherine

Catherine Report 27 Nov 2012 22:32

Glad to hear that Owen is indeed the father of Catherine :-)

There are also these two births registered with mmn McCabe:-

Helen J Mahon Oct-Nov-Dec 1936 Dublin South

John P Mahon Jul-Aug-Sep 1938 Dublin South

..............although they are not in the same area it could be that the family moved away from Mohill for a while, which could explain the time difference between the birth of Annie in 1935 (Mohill) and Catherine in 1942 (Mohill)

To be absolutely sure of mother's name, you would need to buy a copy of the birth certificate of Catherine.

Eringobragh1916 Report 27 Nov 2012 20:58

Jacky...Catherine has supplied probable marriage of Owen Mahon (1934) see thread from yesterday 16.34.
Mohill is in the Co.Leitrim...not the Co Donegal.

Catherine Report 26 Nov 2012 20:31

Eringobragh1916,

These couples are all on the same page, but if you take another look, Francis Beirne is not female but male so cannot be the spouse of George Harold Spokes?
I believe that Francis Beirne married Kathleen Lynch as there are four children born with name Beirne and mmn Lynch born between 1946 and 1951 in Inishowen.

Francis Beirne Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Sarah Cassidy Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
James Doherty Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Rosina Doherty Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Peter Harte Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Kathleen Lynch Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Mary McLoughlin Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
George Harold Spokes Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
.........................................................................................................

Peter Harte looks to have married Rosina Doherty
2 children born in 1947 and 1950 with the name Harte and mmn Doherty in Inishowen.
.................................................................................................

James Doherty looks to have married Sarah Cassidy
A possible 18 children born between 1946 and 1960 with name Doherty and mmn Cassidy in Inishowen.
................................................................................................

Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958 about Mary McLoughlin

Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1946
Registration district: Inishowen

Eringobragh1916 Report 26 Nov 2012 18:59

If in fact the GHS b Sculcoates is correct then he was the son of John William Spokes and Mary Ellen Smith they married 1895 Reg Dec. Hull...you can find details of his parents etc on Free BMD..Mary E plus family are on 1901/1911 Census. John Wm is not present on either although he must still be around as Mary went on to have a number of children up to 1911....
John Wm was the son of Wm and Mary and b Kirk Alla Yorkshire 1873.

Catherine Report 26 Nov 2012 18:47

I saw that marriage too:-

Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958 about George Harold Spokes
Name: George Harold Spokes
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1946
Registration district: Inishowen
Volume: 2
Page: 54 (click to see others on page)
FHL Film Number: 101580

...........................but I believe he married:- Mary McLoughlin

............as there are seven children born to this couple from 1947 to 1957 (all Mother's Surname: McLaughlin)
