I think rootgatherer meant potential marriages for the children, Mark. If they are with the family in one census but not in the next, they may have got married in that 10 year period.

Correct alviegal. That's exactly what I meant! I did see from the opening post that the marriage for the parents had been found.

I don't see a Margaret born 1873 with the couple in 1881. The Margaret with them then is aged only 7 months.

The child Martha Alice died.

A public tree on Ancestry has the family but nothing for them after 1881. It also has a child Margaret b. 1873 and not Martha Alice?

Just found a death for Eli - 1940

I wonder if Elizabeth died and Peter re-married? Or did Elizabeth have a sister who also married a Peter Brooks?

Eliza is the mother of 13 children, 8 still living. They have been married for 6 years.

No proof they were out of england and i do no recognise the children's names

You have James, William and Margaret in the US 1900 census, as well as the parents.
You also have 1873 as a year of marriage.

So Peter remarried to Eliza - as there are step children listed

Mark, while you have no proof that they were out of England, what proof do you have that they remained in England?

They don't seem to be appearing together as a family in England after the 1881 census.

Perhaps it would help us Mark if you could tell us how you got back to this family please? Are you a descendant of one of the children please?

If i have the correct death i found Eli in 1940 deceased - please correct me if i am wrong.

Peter Brooks 1850 through his mother Alice Strickland 1827-1898 who married William Brooks 1818-1867

This lady is suggested as being margaret.

I think this is the Flanagan children with their parents in 1900. The parents emigrated 1880. I wonder if they were foster children to Peter and Elizabeth rather than Step children?
