Find Ancestors

Can anyone help me find the marraige of George Watt and Jane Weir. I think that they were married in Lewis Stornaway Scotland in Sept 1848. (I got that date from downloading one of thier childrens birth reg. and it showed the date of their marraige) I have tried on Scotlands people but they only go back as far as 1855. I would love to go back to their parents but don't know where to start. Can anyone please help.

Can't find the marriage but can give you their childrens baptisms if you have'nt already got them.

I don't know if others would know about other sites for Scotland. I only know of Scotlands People and Familysearch which is free to use.

I suppose you have a sub for Scotlands People?

Did you not check Old Parish Registers on scotlandspeople ?

But not getting a hit using Parish of Stornoway. Some scottish birth certs do give date and place of parents marriage but not always accurate. Perhaps they married somewhere else

Did George and Jane die in Scotland? If so, their death certs should give their parents' names.

The census gives Jane's POB as Auchterless, Aberdeenshire. familysearch has this baptism (which will probably also be on scotlandspeople):

Sorry I did'nt get back but my blimmin pc keeps turning itself off!!

I put up a baptism for a Jane with parents Alexander and Janet. As George and Jane had a son Alexander I thought maybe her father was Alexander as they used to have naming patterns years ago, which is why you have so many names the same in families.
