John Horsley born 1817 Thixendale Yorkshire married to Hannah born 1829 Forcett Yorkshire children Elizabeth 1845 William 1848 Benjamin 1849 all born Crakehall Yorkshire. They are at Crakehall nr Bedale on 1851 census. They vanish after that and I have had a lot of help off members of this site to find them but no luck so I was wondering if someone could look at the emigration records to see if they emigrated. These records are the only help I would like thanks. |

Hi Marian - do you have a previous thread about them? |

1851 for reference - John & Hannah's ages a bit different to what you state: |

I do have a previous thread and I had a lot of help. There are too many deaths for John and none in Bedale. Likewise marriage for Hannah, there are quite a few. The children are as above with very common names. They don't appear on any more census especially as a family. I just thought I would try emigration records. |

OK - was looking for that previous thread because it always helps us to see whatever background information was on there rather than working "cold" on a new request. |

I have now discovered that John and his family went to Australia between 1851 and 1856 (got their death details from an Ancestry family tree). Have emailed the tree holder but haven't heard back yet (if at all). In the criminal registers immigration and emigration section of Ancestry there are two entries for a John Horsley born 1815 and resident in Crakehall Yorkshire as a place where he was resident. Could someone please take a look to see if either match my John Horsley. I would like to know when they actually went. Thank you. |

There is this record but no way of knowing if he's yours: |

Marian, what were the names of your John's parents? It can be useful when checking overseas records. |

This is helpful - their son: |

His father was called William, I don't know what his mother was called. His son William born 1847 and a daughter Mary Ann both died in the year 1857 in Melbourne Australia but don't know what month. |

Wonder if the first name was Ben? |

I believe it is the same tree because his wife Hannah is listed and her maiden name is Race and two of their children born in England were William and Benjamin. On the ancestry tree it says lived in Crakehall which is where they are on the 1851 census. |

Looks like they had several more children: |

Thank you for all the information given above. I appreciate it. I am now going to google the place names to see what they would be like. Would love to know why they went so I am hopeful of a reply from the tree submitter. |

This may be about Hannah's death: |

It is Hannah, her dob is right and her parents were Benjamin and Elizabeth. Thank you. I've gone from a blank in 1851 to all the above. I don't think they left England to farm, I've googled Narre Warren, Victoria (from the Ancestry family tree) and its a suburb of Melboure. Best regards. |
