Flatford Mill

The site where The Hay Wain was painted, as it exists in 2010, where it is primarily a tourist destination.
Flatford Mill is a Grade I listed 18th century watermill built in 1733 in Flatford, East Bergholt, Suffolk, England. Attached to the mill is a 17th century miller's cottage which is also Grade I listed.
The property is located in the heart of Dedham Vale, a typically English rural landscape.
It is noted as the location for works by John Constable, whose father owned the mill. Constable made the mill and its immediate surroundings the subject of many of his most famous paintings. It is the title of one of his most iconic paintings, Flatford Mill (Scene on a Navigable River), and is in the title or the subject of several other of his largest paintings including: Flatford Mill from a lock on the Stour; Flatford Mill from the lock (A water mill); The Lock. The Hay Wain, which features Willy Lott's House, was painted from the front of the mill.
The mill is located just downstream from Bridge Cottage which, along with neighbouring Valley Farm and Willy Lott's Cottage, are leased to the Field Studies Council, a group that uses them as locations for arts, ecology and natural history based courses.

I've found Lucy in the 1871. The original is very pale but I'm certain she is a widow.

I couldn't believe where the family were living. I recognised the place straightaway and it's obvious connections. Everywhere I go with this family there are connections to the world of art. I am totally freaked - in the nicest way of course.

Wasn't she just.

In the 1891 you can't even blame the ennumerator having bad writing. In the 1881 which you so brilliantly found (sticks fingers down throat) she has again defied normal aging practice and got younger with age.

Please would you see if you can find the family in earlier census. The house has suddenly got busy again and I can't keep my train of thoughts together and I can't find them. It's probably me. Looks like my afternoon sabatical is over :-D :-D
