Hi everyone,

I am so sorry for not having been on or responding for a while. We have mananged to re-home the cat and have asked for Bill's ashes to be scattered in the same area as his mother. We offered to pay for the funeral, but unbelievably got turned down.....We have cleared the flat of anything that we felt was very personal to Bill and items that we felt he wouldnt want to be dumped or vwere of significant value, prior to giving over the keys. We do wonder if there is some kind of cover up, due in essence to a medical cock-up and the fact that his Rolex watch has gone missing from the hospital!!
We did consult with the police before taking the action we have done and they felt that as we were in possession of the keys we could do what we liked!!!! Also as the authorities hadnt been there and didnt know what was in the flat it sort of didnt matter.........!

We really have appreciated your help and support and we are sorry that we can not report a better outcome.

I wonder if Bill's funeral will be a cremation. Maybe Christine could request the ashes be scattered at Hither Green with his Mum.

The Scottish lookups are in pursuit of siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins.

I agree with you. It surely must be possible for friends to organise a funeral if there's no family.

Sorry. My mistake. As the original request was for look ups in Edinburgh, I assumed that was where the person had died.
Would still have thought that the Local Authority would have been pleased that someone was willing to take over the funeral arrangements.

They aren't in Scotland: Christine lives in Kent.

Having worked for the Local Authority & had some dealings with the disposal of people who die without relatives, I find it a bit odd that the Local Authority want to fund a pauper´s funeral when there is someone who wants to take responsibility.
Might be worth contacting the Court of Protection.........although things may be different in Scotland.

I'd be getting a call in to these people - get some advice as to why yo cant arrange funeral if thats what you want to do

The death cert for Wilhemina Joyce Robson might be useful, In fact if your rang Lewisham they might ( Might!) tell you tha name of the person that registered her death. Tell them your circumstances and they might be willing to help.

Thankyou for your email both Wilhemina & William were cremated here at Hither Green Crematorium.
William died 30th July 1991 and was cremated on 7th August 1991 his cremated remains were removed by the funeral directors as requested by his wife.
Wilhemina died 19th February 2003 and was cremated on 3rd March 2003 her cremated remains were scattered in our grounds area G2.

Bit of a long shot, but why don't you phone Lewisham in the morning and explain what is happening. See if they can tell you over the phone if there's space in the parents graves. (Are you in London by the way?)

Thank you everybody so far. I can not express my gratitude enough. You're all wonderful.

It is so difficult, as the authorities requested that as friends we make a decision to turn of the life support machine after their cock up and yet now we're not allowed to do anything and they want the keys to the flat etc even tho' Bill had entrusted us with the. So that they can conduct the paupers funeral, this saturday and only 3 people are allowed to attend!!! They're saying we can't do one for him as we're not next of kin.............aaaaarrrrgh, sooooo much red tape!

Sorry for the frustrated rant.

We reaaly do appreciate your support, our brains are completely fried at the moment.
