Find Ancestors

Hi To anyone who can help please, I have my great grandfather on my Grandads marriage certificate but cannot find him anywhere, I would like to enter his profession (retired police inspector) to see if this helps with a census search but there is no facility for this that I can see he was alive in 1912 thats all I know I have tried census searches with father and son names but nothing seems to work, thanks

Could you gives us some names to work with and we can try and help?

He may not have described himself as a retired police inspector, but used a completely different job title.

You can search Find My Past by occupation in 1911, but you also have to include a first or surname. This also applies to most earlier censuses

Maybe Maureen just wants advice on procedure so she can search herself.

Can you tall us what John George's occupation and his age was when he married please and his marital status.

Think we may have the wrong person here.

Something isn't adding up here unless Ilma is wife number 2. However, I can't find a death for Beatrice.

That's what made me ask because I think that this is Beatrice Annie's death

Unless they separated after 1911 and his 2nd marriage was bigamous

What's interesting is that Ilma was a barmaid at the Railway Hotel in Croydon and the John George we have found worked for the railways.

If you have the marriage cert for John george then maybe you can compere the signature to the 1911 census to see if they are the same guy.

Daisy Beatrice Mary Wills 1897 married 20/7/1918 naming dad as John George Wills a Clerk.
Her address at the time was 18,Portsea Place.

John Wills - Spitalfields - (London - Middlesex)
I am trying to trace the parents of John Wills born c1807-1810 he married Catherine Swain on St Helena in 1831 where they had at least two children before returning to London to have several more children. One of the children born in St Helena was George Wills c1835 who is listed on one of the census as a Police Inspector. Can anyone help me?
