does indeed seem a likely match, also ages tie in. |

Richard dying aged 35 in 1838 is good match for Richard baptised 1803 son of John and Ann, seems likely to be the same chap. |

Yes that could be a possibility. Also if this is Richard's death in 1838 this woud tie in well with the 1841 census, where Rachel is living with her four children Maria 11, Isaiag? 6, Sarah 3 and James 6 months - possibly after this she started a relationship with George or even around the time Sarah was born so possibly her first two children were with Richard and then all of the others with George? |

Richard Hambidge may have married both Rachels, Newman in 1825, and Ockwell in 1829, as posted earlier, if this is the death of Rachel nee Newman. |

seems a good match to me :) |

However, just to muddy the waters, Richard appears to have married a Rachel NEWMAN. |

If Rachel were married to George's brother, it would have been illegal at that time for her to marry her deceased husband's brother, which could account for the lack of a marriage between Rachel and George. |

I think you were correct in thinking that Rachel was married to George's brother, became a widow and went on to have children with George. Not an uncommon scenario. |

Confusing. This seems to suggest her maiden name was Ockwell: |

Sorry just thinking, is anyone able to provide me with details of the 1841 census, I can see just by searching the Son James 1841 that he is 0 on the 1841 census, would like to show what it acually states on there |
